Best player (non QB) in the league. We are lucky to have him.

MIAMI -- Christian McCaffrey's record-breaking 2019 season earned a big stamp of recognition on Saturday as he was named the NFL Fantasy Player of the Year at the league's ninth annual NFL Honors ceremony ahead of Super Bowl LIV.

The award caps a stellar campaign in which McCaffrey was named AP All-Pro First Team at both the running back and flex positions after joining the exclusive 1,000-1,000 club.

He was also named to his first Pro Bowl, and earned PFWA All-NFL honors and Sporting News All-Pro honors.

You have to love USA Today’s grade of drafting McCaffrey after he was selected:

I never trust offensive production in the PAC 10--it is like the defense has to wear blindfolds and mittens.  He has proven me wrong.  I really did not expect anything more than a third down back.   If you called it, hats off.  (by the way--did Ross ever play?--checked: in 3 seasons, he has 49 career catches.  Yikes)

The grade is dumb. Unfortunately the analysis does bring up a reasonable point in terms of resource allocation and overall investment value in a team building context when future general managers consider taking a running back in the top 8 of the draft. As talented as Barkley and McCaffrey are, they can't win you games alone. Pair that with the look of offenses around the league that are successfully operating with 2 or 3 backs, like the Saints who drafted Kamara in the third round, if anything that analysis rings more true now.

CMC is a 1k runner and a 1k receiver. With a healthy QB and talent around him he can absolutely win you a Super Bowl. Can you imagine him as RB for the Chiefs or 49ers?

1k rushing/1k receiving amounted to 1 divisional win against the NFCS in 2019.

Those numbers will be going down a good bit if we are making a playoff run. The 49ers are so good because they operate like a machine. It isn't just one guy getting ran into the ground with an insane number of reps. Different players come in and do their part.

So grateful the Chargers didnt draft him 1 pick earlier. Hopefully, looking back in a few years we will be just as thankful that the Chargers didnt draft ______ 1 pick higher.

And, CMC was on my FF team, along with the NFL MVP. Needless to say, we won it all.

Be honest--how many were (WTF?) when we drafted him?   (I was).

I wasn’t wtf but I was definitely not super excited because I’m opposed to drafting rb’s in the 1st round. He’s done great so I’ve got nothing against the guy and thrilled we have him, but do have concerns about paying any rb  big money.
