The Offensive Line

I'm not here to argue whether we should or shouldn't draft a LT. My opinion is we'll draft Brown if he is available.

I think Daley and Little have shown enough promise to fill that need at OT.

The main reason for this post is. How much do you attribute our OLine performance to continuity? When you shuffle players around and around it is difficult to gel together.

I am in agreement about Paradis wasn't the answer at center. It should tell us just how good Kalil was. Maybe he couldn't make the right calls in protection.

Taylor and Moton are a good start. Daley and Little have potential. IMO it's not as bad as some think.

I agree the line lives and dies by the center imo. If there is s pocket it greatly helps the tackles. This draft has 2 or 3 franchise centers in it at the moment it seems and they can be had with out second pick. With that and a little continuity ,the oline will look much improved.

There's a lot of wisdom here. I'd still be in favor of drafting a center early.

D. Brown in the first and a center in the second. Plug the holes in the middle of both lines. The run must be stopped up the middle, our defense with the resigning of our pieces is better then it looked. If you literally cant stop the run you wont win ball games no matter how good the rest of the d is.

This is not going to be well received by some considering the state of our defense, but if we draft Thomas in the first, a solid center prospect in the 2nd, and dip into that super deep WR class in the third I’ll be thrilled.

Id be in favor of doing that this year, plug what holes you can in the D with FA, then next draft zero in on your D.

Thats my dream draft.

Neither has shown that they can start or even be a back up in the NFL. I had high hopes for Little but he's two concussions away from retirement and Daley isn't talented enough to stop a paper bag in the wind. Seriously Matt Kalil was better.

The Cs in this draft aren’t as good as last year or the year before IMHO. We could have had an already top 5 C instead of Little (and not traded up).

There was an article on Paradis, i think it was Riot Report, talking about how the Panthers were using Paradis.  Basically saying that the coaches were not giving him a chance to get his hands up after snapping the ball.  Other teams use their guards, and we instead had our guards helping our tackles.  Bad coaching may have attributed to many of our oline miscues

This makes sense although I would point out that we likely had our guards helping our tackles because we had no other choice.  But I generally agree that poor play at a couple of positions on the oline makes the entire line look worse than it actually is.

If you look at the top half of the league in least #sacks allowed, two things stand out. 1. Lack of rookie starters, most linemen were in their 2nd or more seasons. 2. Lack of games/starts missed to injuries. Some of the teams were not known for super quick passers [Brees, Brady] Vikings, Colts or Steelers for example. Just something in mind

I would say there were several factors that led to an "offensive" OLine.

1. Injuries

2. Bad/panicked coaching

3. Youth and inexperience

4. Recovery from injuries

It's unlikely we'll have the same injuries to the OLine this year. If so, we have to just figure we are snake-bit.

We *might* have better coaches this year. They aren't coaching to keep their jobs, so let's see what they can do.

Daley and Little have a year under their belts. With offseason training and workouts, hopefully they will be improved. I would expect so.

Paradis is now a year removed from his major injury. Now he has an offseason in which he can actually train. Let's see what he does with that.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Panthers draft IOL on day 2 or 3 and maybe pick up someone like Cushenberry. He's raw, but has a lot of potential and hedges our bets if Paradis doesn't recover.

A few of your points is my point exactly, give Little a chance before drafting his replacement. Hardly any rookie tackles ever do great and we had multiples starting.  I do think interior lineman have an easier transition though just from watching for years.

I also expect our oline to be improved just due to experience and hopefully health. Paradis not having a off season could have really hurt his performance.
