Cam Interview ‘I’m staying’ video

This is the best news for the organization. You take this year and gauge how he performs. If the injuries continue, you search for your QB of the future next year. If he succeeds, you can postpone it for a few years or go the GB/Rogers route and let the guy sit for a few years. This year it’s time to build the lines.

Awesome, lets get him a LT or a big D tackle at 7. Good on Cam for playing on a 1 year with questionable health, that is a true competitor.

Amen. And I sincerely hope one of the things in that conversation that inspired him to stay was being told “fixing your oline is top priority right now.”

Wouldn't that be nice.

He's had almost a year to heal, after a couple of game interruption, without being trotted out there to get slaughtered because, despite his injuries, "he gives us the best chance to win."  Now let's see what he has.

That's where I was hoping this would land since it started.  Not because I think he can roll back the hands of time to 2015.  He's older, his body has been beaten up, and he's lost weight (and unlike Jamarcus Russell, his doctor probably wasn't starting his physicals with "you need to lose a few pounds").  But, he also (finally) had somebody work with him on his throwing motion to take some of the pressure off his shoulder, and not because of the injury.  What little we have seen looks like he is putting a little more air under the ball, particularly on long passes, giving his receivers a chance to run to the ball.  I consider that a positive.

But, the biggest threat to his health is our OL.  Here's a memo, and I know some will find this a revolutionary idea........FIX IT!

The backside of this is all the words are nice.  I'll be convinced when we see him in September.  Then again, I was born in Missouri, so the motto "show me" applies.  That applies to both sides of this tired argument.

It's a no lose situation unless he gets hurt again.  Cam is already under contract for the year, with relatively weak QB draft class (after Burrow and Tua) and a good FA QB would probably cost us more money.

At best, Cam returns healthy and can prove he can get back to the top.  At worst he's a bridge QB to 2021 in a superb QB class.  Anyway, we don't have to worry about QB in 2020.

Devils advocate here: a few things here

1. Cam playing and then leaving is just a wasted year and it doesnt fit into Teppers narative

2. We have no idea if its a weak class or not, its what Rhule and Brady decide.

3. If cam plays and we win 6-8 games whats the point of that?  we would not be in position to get a top guy.  I think you will see the long term overall plan is to create cap space, build the lines up, roll out WG and aim for a stud in 2021.  Or I could see them falling in love with a Fromm type mid level guy that Brady thinks he can mold in the image of Burrows.
