agreed, but they might have decided to make cam part of the new core.  With Cam/CMC/Moore you have your 3 big offensive weapons, just gotta get him protection.

Not so fast....

Based on this article:  https://www.wsoctv.com/news/north-carolina/panthers-owner-tepper-says-no-decision-yet-on-future-of-cam-newton/1010146140/

what has happened to change this position?

Cam says he needs to get back to 100%.  So does Tepper.

However, he is a bargain at QB right now if healthy--and he probably has no trade value---so why not hold onto him for a year?  You can cut him at any time if he has not recovered.  I do not see the downside for the Panthers to want him to play here in 2020.

If we rebuild, we are going to have a lot of cap room because we will have a lot of first contracts.  Cam's salary is probably not going to be an issue.

Let's say he plays well in 2020.  Healthy and has a 2015 season.  Front load a 3-year extension and let a young QB develop.  You build the OL and D--add a WR, CB, etc.  You are set to bring in the future at QB.

So there are a lot of variables, and I just explained the best case scenario.  The team will still watch him throw in March--before the draft---so in my mind, they simply gave Cam reassurances under the condition that he is healthy---

Does that mean we are building the team around Cam---NO. How STUPID would it be to say that now?  Very.  It is a one-year "prove it" deal--at least in theory.

You’re citing something from November from “sourcez” to disprove the media rounds Cam did yesterday to clear the air? Cam wouldn’t be doing that if the Panthers didn’t give him the okay. We’re not rebuilding yet, if the Cam/Rhule project tanks we start the rebuild next year

What has changed since November that makes Tepper now think, "I am all in?"  Nothing.

By the way, some of you are so bad at thinking, when you poo my posts, I take it as a sign that I am on the right track.

Gotta think business here---admit your bias and do not let it control you.  If this were your team and the money was real, what would you do?  If you say, sign Cam to an extension, keep pooing my posts.

Keeping Newton means the Panthers can focus on rebuilding the defense this offseason, which was honestly the biggest problem the team had. Everyone was awful.

But I have serious doubts Cam can ever play a full season of football again. So maybe a different veteran would be more appropriate. I’d rather it be Cam, but his health is a major question mark.

Cams surgery

Now he is 100%?  Even Cam said he needs to get to 100% and the issue is the shoulder (scar tissue, arthritis) and not the foot that was the focus of the surgery.  Although Cam's injury was worse, how did a foot injury work out for Olsen?  The are not considered a joint injury so people trivialize them, but some of the worst injuries you can have involve the feet.

From what I took from the interview is that he is still not there but close and should be ready by march.  I think we know for sure then and not let this drag into the Free agency or the draft.

Most logical people have said we should see how he does in 2020 before we decide to extend him.

there have been some posters, like you and stirs, who think we should just trade him now regardless. Most of us realize having a franchise qb is vital to a teams success and giving Cam this upcoming season to evaluate his health is LESS risky than trading him away now for a chance to draft an unknown qb to replace him. Evaluating all factors like, will we even be In position to draft a top qb this year or next even if it’s a tank season? What happens if that doesn’t pan out and Cam’s health is a non issue and goes on to another franchise to have success. What happens if we tank and miss out on the top prospects. Because that CAN happen. What happens if one of those prospects gets injured in their final season like Tua?

People also remember you questioning Cam as a franchise qb in 2012, when others stressed patience with him so that also has something to do with the poop. People also remember stirs comments on Cam through the years.

Read my posts.  I have considered several options--and keeping him this season is a good move--don't put words in my mouth. There is not only 1 correct opinion at this point.  Why do people on here who think it is important to call out others for different opinions think they are qualified to determine what is logical?  The inability to consider alternative perspectives is called bias, and bias is a form of ignorance.
