So you think he didn't want to go?

He gave some interviews back in December where he indicated he wanted to continue playing and that while he would have liked to stay with the Panthers, he didn't expect them to want to pay what his contract would have required.

I'll grant he probably didn't want to be part of the rebuild, but had the Panthers been willing to go ahead and pay him the full salary he was due next year, I'm not so sure he would have turned it down.

Greg would be an excellent fit on the Patriots, should they give it another go with Brady. They could go all in on defense this offseason and probably win another Superbowl with Greg helping Tom out on 3rd down.

Pats are not going to come anywhere near a SB for the next several decades.

You can predict the NFL out 30 years?

Hell, most on this board thought we had a SB roster, and that was only 5 months ago....good on you brother.

You wait and see. Belichick and Brady are done and the NFL will not let the Pats luck into another run with new people.

As I am prone to do, here is a twist that goes against the grain:

What if Olsen getting cut does not mean Cam is gone--but that he is staying? By cutting Olsen, they save $8m.  Luke's retirement saves them some money.  I doubt the re-sign McCoy or Irvin--there is another $13m.  Cam's salary is covered now--they will still have $$ to move around in free agency.

Without Cam, we have needs at the toughest positions on the field--DE, LT, and QB. And until Bradberry is signed, CB.  And if you have a healthy Cam Newton, you have his salary covered, and he does not hurt you for one more season.

Why keep Cam?  Leadership, fan favorite, and trade value.  He has no trade value right now.  Even if you do draft a QB, he will not be ready to start.  This way, you can draft a second round QB and work on his mechanics.

I am not saying they will build around Cam---but as they transition, he might be a good leader to help oversee it.  He should have a better OL and better defense than last year.   '

You all look at stuff like fans and get mad if I piss on your loyalty flakes--I try to remove the emotion and look at it like a GM---there are no Panthers at my table at Thanksgiving, and I get no Christmas cards from any of them.  Why would being objective be difficult?
