yeah, I dont see him going to play for anything less than a legit contender.

Greg would be an excellent fit on the Patriots, should they give it another go with Brady. They could go all in on defense this offseason and probably win another Superbowl with Greg helping Tom out on 3rd down.

I hate saying that but it’s so true. It’s his obvious choice.

I feel like it was a nice way of saying we’re cutting you.

It’s more so a nice way of saying we’re not going to trade you or got no offers when shopped for your current contract so here’s the money cause we’re nice and you can go play somewhere else if you want.

Waiting to see if there are trade offers before they cut him. And they can't trade him any time soon.

He won't report, he will just hang em up.

Gotta remember, this isn't Madden.  These are real people.  Greg has a family, has his health, and apparently likes living in CLT...which he could continue to do, as many NFL people do for the airport and the community.

I give him a 95% chance of calling games next year.

Unless he is called upon by a SB looking roster, I fully expect Greg to be in the booth on Sundays.

There are several contenders who could use a veteran TE like him... GB, Seattle, New England, Tennessee, Houston, etc.

Nobody would trade for him on this contract and his age. NE would wait until he’s cut and they can sign him for almost nothing if he wants to play for a competitor.

He's being cut, same as anyone else.

The Panthers are just letting him save face by saying "Yeah, I wanted to go."

I agree. I can see the conversation starting with Hurney saying, "So, Greg. What plans do you have for next season?" And then not giving him options with the Panthers.

It's feeling to me like the purge JR did in 2010 with the veterans during the lockout except Hurney's been here before and saw that he handled it badly last time so the approach has changed. There's a new owner who respects the game and the players first as people.

So, who's next? Jansen or Newton?

  • I think most of us Panther fans saw this coming. After losing Luke to retirement and most likely losing Cam as well, the writing was on the wall for Olsen.

I know he says that he wishes to keep playing but with several foot injuries to the same foot his production is down. This is no slam on him but he can't run the great routes as well as he used to. If he were to play for another team, he would most likely be relegated to a Blocking TE not a Route Running TE.

Having said all this, i wish this fine person Greg Olson, all the luck and well being in the world.
