Greg Olsen leaves Panthers, doesn't retire

Perhaps, but I wouldn't be too sure about it.

Olsen was Cam's favorite target and this team has little to offer a franchise QB on the wrong side of 30 still looking to win his first Super Bowl.

Maybe he will do a better job of spreading the ball around.  Olsen is old for a tight end and there was little chance he would come back with or without Cam.

Perhaps, although its not a certaintity.  But I do think the team will have to feel fairly confident about his health before they offer a new contract.

I would venture it's safe to say that Cam Newton will not sign another contractor to play QB for the Carolina Panthers.

If Cam's last year or two had been anywhere similar to 2015, Carolina would've already resigned him to a long term record breaking contract and rightfully so.

Sadly, as we all now know, that was not meant to be.

Now the Panthers organization and Cam are confronted with many unknowns.

This guy can explain it better than me:

How does 3 carries keep DJ from doing anything?  Why would he be less valuable than taking one of his many blocking plays and run with one of the best YAC WRs in the NFL. It’s not an either/or situation.

They need a Z-option at WR so Samuel can play all over.. Problem is, he is a FA after this year. So if he does break out, is he part of this going forward? What do you pay him? For what he can do,, or what he has shown.

My fault, I didn't do the math, honestly you have it about right as far as I'm concerned and that's how I feel about samuel the perfect z. I'm guessing he will max around 750 yds in the air and maybe 1k scrimmage, and I doubt he ever out does the td numbers he did this year. After he Burns a few teams they will respect him. I see him as a better more useful Ted ginn so I would see him being paid about half what a #1 recieves? Maybe slightly more? Not sure on the market for good z recievers. Hes worth the money to keep that safety out of the box so CMC can do his thing and this is why I feel we have such a potent offense if we have the QB.

Do you think his health will be known before he plays in a live game? I don’t think so. And he’ll either be long gone by then or decided to be kept.

How? What did he know? Same thing most did? That we were going to eat dead cap in 2020 so Olsen could feel better in 2017.

Dead cap doesnt mean anything when the overall effect is 7 million in cap savings. Yall seem really confused by math.

This has absolutely no bearing on cam stop that nonsense. 20 million for a year on the line nobody is gonna say no to that cause greg who hasn't been the same for a while is gone.

For once I agree with you, I knew Olsen was gone when the season started. His comments about the direction of the team to the press, only solidified my opinion.

I said it back when everyone was calling for RR's head: It's going to hurt real bad before it gets better around here.

Welcome to the times that hurt. We're losing everything that made the Panthers who they were in the hopes of becoming better. Sure hope it pays off. This isn't Madden and we can't hit the reset button.
