Greg Olsen leaves Panthers, doesn't retire

He’s technically still under contract with the Panthers for the 2020 season, so he will eventually have to be released or traded.

Most likely he will be released, as few NFL teams want to pick up a contract that requires them to pay $11.8 million in 2020 to a tight end who has suffered through two serious foot injuries in recent years. By cutting him, the Panthers would save $8.1 million in salary-cap space.

Umm, Olsen and Cam were our two best weapons and Stewart was still good. Heck, if Stewart was fully healthy for the SB, we probably win. Actually, our third and fourth best weapons were our D and OL. We had 1 more takeaway per game than the average team and OL was consistently ranked top 5 in 2015 and was healthy. That’s huge and we don’t have any of that.

I'll give you that but the difference in a 15-1 season and squeaking out a 8-8 is huge as well.

Wow after Cam that's got to be one of his worst, heres to hoping if he can focus on the draft and leave all the other gming to other people during that phase, he can replicate his first round talent.

I always think about that draft as Marty’s worst. Yes, we all know about Cam but there were probably 6 or 7 HOFers in that top 11. Have the first pick in each round and you can’t hit on anything but the #1 overall? It wasn’t even hitting. I think one player besides Cam played out his rookie deal and it was a shitty WR with like a dozen career catches.

Agreed, the cupboards aren't entirely bare, just don't plan on throwing any big parties with what we have on hand.

I just want watchable games tbh next year, with a huge draft haul the possibility is there but the chances are low, I know this but that's not gonna keep me from watching the draft wanting that perfect haul like the saints pulled a few years ago. Teams can flip in a year, I've seen it too many times, just doesn't happen often.

I agree just saying that even with the #1 scoring offense (which we will not have), we would be the 9-7 Rams. I’d say that’s our ceiling unless we have the 2017 NO draft and that happens rarely and Marty hasn’t had a complete draft in over a decade. Heck, we had 4 3rd round picks the past two years and we’ve got Grier to show for it. Maybe a little of Little but he’s very likely there at 47, wasted trade up.

That OL had two bad games. But if you watch any other game from 2015, kit doesn’t take long to see the two main differences. OL and DL. Cam had time all year. And nobody ran on that DEF.

He a JAG outside WR. But could be great if they would use him like a overall weapon. He should have around 75 rushes/year. And DJ about 50. Best parts for their games goes to waste weekly.

I like Curtis rushing but to me DJ showed too much recieving to give him that many. I want about 750 yds recieving from Curtis and alot of first down rushes. To me that would make him a successful #2. Most people want two #1s but dont realize you cant really afford two 1s.

That's why I think if you fix the interior of the Dline with a guy like brown and draft a really good center in the 2nd you are going a long way to getting back to this. This is where we need to concentrate I just dont think we are that bad in other places.

What’s a successful #2 consist of? Stats or ability? Not interested in labels. More about letting players do what they are best at. Why can’t DJ use his “uncanny” ability with the ball in his hands because he catches them. too? We can let the QB pat it forward and call it a pass if it helps. Just get them easy touches.

You nailed it bro, my optimism is with Rhule and maybe all other pressures taken off of Marty via assistant GMs we can have that 2017 draft. We have high enough picks. Unlikely but that's what optimism is for.

If Cam is not healthy, he won't be back.  If he is, then he will probably return.  Olsen's retirement or leaving has zero impact on that.

Cam’s fate here will be decided well before his health is 100% known.
