Dearest Huddle,

I’ll keep this moderately saxy.

DRAFT OVERVIEW: SAXY WISHES

R1 - Andrew Thomas LT Georgia 6’5 320

R1 Alternates - Jerry Jeudy WR Alabama, Jedrick Wills RT/LT

At the end of the day, Thomas is the 3 year pro-ready starter at LT coming out of the SEC and has all the tools and measurables you look for with an absolutely mauler-esque mindset.  It’s the offseason and have been exploring the non OL picks, but if I’m being honest, he could likely be both BPA and fix a huge need. Little is a question mark and Daley can go to LG.  Moton cemented at RT. This is a plug and play 10 year starter; all-pro. No flags, no injuries. Thomas it is.

R2 - Justin Madubuike DT Texas A&M 6’3 304

R2 Alternates - Patrick Queen LB LSU, Justin Jefferson WR LSU, Damon Arnette OSU

Keep an eye out for his name.  Disruptor. Being talked up as the second DT after Brown but the hype behind Kinlaw, Raekwan, and Gallimore may push him back. Our spot in Round 2 is where you grab guys that should’ve been taken in the first, as a handful of teams always reach (I see you Raiders…)  I am seeing Justin anywhere from 15-45 in rankings.

Intermission...

Okay, so with value, BPA, and need in mind, we’ve added some muscle to both lines.  Now, it’s time to just go for your high upside talent with legit potential or other early starter types.

R3 - Tyler Biadasz - Center - Wisconsin 6’3 316

Psych! Line again. Even if this requires a trade up, do it.  He can be inserted right there at Center. I wouldn’t want to over expose a rookie line with a new LT and C so at least we have counterparts/alternates in Little, Daley (LT) and Paradis and Larsen (C).  They are not the best (as we’ve seen) but we shouldn’t add another FA to inflate the investment at Center. Grab a guy here who can start long term.  He's one of the few centers I feel can transition quite easily.

And I mean, who doesn’t like a lineman out of the Badger crew?  He was the anchor and lifeblood of CFB’s best line. Do it.

R3 (Trade)  - Tyler Johnson - WR - Minnesota 6’2 205 STUD STUD STUD Stone cold killer, smooth operator

Great hands, buttery routes, smooth runner.  Reminds me a bit of Allen Robinson and Tyler Boyd.  Love his potential and could drop in a LOADED WR class.  Had some clutch catches for a high performing/unexpected powerhouse up there in Minnesota.  One of my faves in the draft.

R4 - Khalid Kareem DE - Notre Dame 6’4 267

nbc_nd_kareemintv_191123_640x360.jpg

Looking for high upside guys with 3 down DE potential, Kareem is a good option.  Explosive, good reels out there. Has a power-speed combo and solid against the run.  Hope we target a big DE as we have too many fringe 3-4 EDGE talent. Steady progression throughout school and he’s been filling out his frame.  The traditional DE isn’t a mold coming out of school anymore (I.E. Epenesa who’s more 3-4 DE) but Kareem has some nice skills. Don’t look at his measurements and say he’s undersized--he’s got the 4-3 frame.

Remaining Pick (Trade) - Justin Strnad OLB Wake Forest 6’3 235

AR-191029482.jpg

Showed legit development last year, being a play-making LB, blue chip, high intelligence, intriguing size.  Sealed/closed out a few games for Wake. Has some sideline to sideline relentlessness. Also--has highlight videos as an OLB (not super common) and could be a solid WILL.

There it is. El Fin.

But…

Also...

The wax tan clippins'

A maybe mid round target:

Anthony Gordon QB Washington State

2472d41732256e18f7a7f49a99d0c4d3

Okay, we see you now (And don't throw the poo yet haha) I think I like you more than Jordan Love.

And after reading up on him, I don’t think this is just expecting Minshew 2.0.  They’re different QBs. Gordon looks to have a lightning fast release, great agilility, with decent size at 6’3. Solid arm strength, good active pocket presence knowing when to get the ball out.  Never know when you strike gold and we’d be at a point where you might as well take a stab at a guy. The hype will now begin after a huge Senior Bowl.

And a few extra guys I like and note:

-Really not that good of a secondary class (said note)

-David Woodward (LB) Utah State

-DJ Wonnum (DE) South Carolina 6’5 265

-Brandon Aiyuk (WR) Arizona State 6’1 206

-Chase Claypool (WR) Notre Dame 6’4 220

-Damon Arnette (CB) Ohio State 6’0 195

-Xavier McKinney (S) Alabama

Ok.

And now, a travel video. Today's location: Laos

Hurney’s probably reading this right now for pointers.

I wanted to go with Cambodia, but Laos has a certain appeal at the moment.  Would be great off the grid vacations spots for him.  Just needs to watch out for lost grenades and mines.

If Thomas is there at 7 and we dont pick him I cannot imagine the number of things in my living room that will get destroyed.

I can.

11.

Eleven things in your living room will get destroyed. I think you start off strong on a rampage but then lose steam. At the end you’re just ripping up paper towels in frustration. You might make it to 14 but that’s only if you hit the gym hard between now and the Combine.

I grew up with a couple boys from Laos. Loved going to their house. Their grandmother was always sitting on the floor in the middle of the kitchen  getting something ready to cook. Great meals, great family, lot of fun. They always had a stockpile of fireworks. We'd break the stick off of bottle rockets, light them and throw them at each other or have wars with Roman candles. Actually that was all pretty dumb and I'm surprised we didn't spend more time at the hospital and I'd never let my kids do it, but whatever. Those brothers were a lot of fun, but hilarious when they got to fighting. Epic. Started cussing each other out in Laotian and throwing each other around kicking each other sometimes all over the trailer park we lived in. Didn't need tv back then, I mean there was only about 5 channels anyway, but still life with those guys was entertaining enough.

What were we talking about?

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
