It's crazy, Kobe was only 4 years older than I am now. I remember when I was in HS, he stepped onto the scene as an 18 yo kid. I saw all his struggles, when he missed his shots, in his first couple of seasons he tried to hit the game winners but came up short. Then the progression of him skills, the way he handled the ball. His clutchness finally came in. I'll never forget all those amazing memories of him winning those titles. Seeing him progression through the years. I'm so sad that his daughter was with him. I hope they didn't suffer and I hope his wife and family get through this tough time. I'm still in shock man.

Kobe, even with the well reported personal "foible" in his life, always struck me as being a genuinely good guy. 

He was also to my son's (born in 1990) generation what Michael Jordan was to the previous generation and what Lebron is for today's (Julius Erving was the corresponding match to my generation... yes, I'm old).

Damn...

RIP, Kobe.  Too young... just TOO. DAMN. YOUNG.

Yeah I was shocked too when he said 9.  Everywhere else was saying 5. And they did clarify 9 people.

Wasn't a big fan of his as a player but that pales in comparison to mourning anyone's tragic death. So sad for the families and loved ones of all who died in the accident.

That’s the seating max on that aircraft.

They said 8 people and one pilot. Makes sense unfortunately.

The reporting today has been terrible. ABC said all his daughters were on board. Then some yahoo in Arkansas reported that there were no family members on board. Then Rick Fox was on board. Now it might be nine people.
