Kobe Bryant dead in Helicopter crash

I was wondering that too with a couple players.  Greg, Brady, and Brees.  It's not just some random families suffering loss.  This is a legend, one of their own.  Having that time available to around your family instead of chasing a ring or records might be more appealing Sunday night than it was Sunday morning.

Thought crossed my mind that other stars in various sports might see this as a "stop and think" moment.

Apology accepted, nerd.

Since when does knowing how to fly (when I have a license) makes me a nerd?  I don’t think my passengers would like it to much having me take them up and I have no idea what I’m doing.

For once I think bronn was trying to be affectionate.

It doesn't. Talking about it in a thread mourning the loss of a public figure, and almost literally becoming the "ackchyually" meme guy at one point does.

"Flying is easier than driving" - some casual user comment.

lol.

We get it, you're a pilot. There are other ones of them here. Cool. Move along.

I understand where you are coming from. it is a fine line discussing crash and being respectful for the dead.  One reason I backed down on discussing the crash. But I would also say I will say Legiox did give some good info and it helps people grieve understanding what happened.  But it is a very fine line.

With that said I wont bring up any aviation unless asked and might be best to start a new thread just on the investigation.

 Helicopters are dangerous.

Helicopters are hard as fug to fly well.

I was a passenger in a US Navy SH3 Sea King and we "controlled" ditched in the Indian Ocean. Fug that. We hit hard, screwed the crewman's back up forever, and barely got our before it sank like a rock. The H3 is supposed to be able to stay on the water with flotation devices in the wheel pontoons and the V-hull design, but we went down in the trough of the swell and it only took a few of those swells to tip the fugging thing over.

I never set foot in another helicopter until a few years ago when we rafted the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. They fly you from the rim down to meet the rafts on the river. That was nerve-wracking as hell, too, and it was only a 5-minute flight.
