Kobe Bryant dead in Helicopter crash

I kind of started to stop watching the NBA after the Hornets drafted and then traded Kobe. I watched a couple more years, but I was really bummed about it.

I can't say I followed his career too much after I stopped caring about the NBA, but everyone knows his legacy. As mentioned, he was the next generation's MJ for the most part.

I still remember watching the NBA draft, and chanting "Kobe! Kobe! Kobe!" when the Hornets were on the clock.

Crazy. RIP.

Kobe got off to a bad start with me by demanding a trade and refusing to play for the Hornets when he was just 17 years old. Yes he eventually did become a legendary player, but my feeling at the time, which hasn't changed was, you haven't proven jack yet, be thankful you're considered good enough to be drafted at all, show just the tiniest shred of humility, go where they tell you to go, become great and then you get to dictate where you play.

Regardless of any of that, what happened yesterday is still incredibly sad. Things like this remind you that regardless of who you like or dislike in the world of sports, it's all small potatoes compared to our shared humanity.  I thought the tributes by the various teams playing yesterday were fitting gestures.

Looks like local agencies in the area grounded their helicopters due to the weather at the time of the crash. I heard they were on the way to a game. I hope they didn’t make the same mistake other aviators have done in the past, which is take chances with the weather so they are not late to their destination. Tragedy all around

Ya. As it was brought up there was a grounding. I find it hard to believe that’s the only factor though honestly judging by where they crashed. They were not that high up. It does look like they went sideways into that hill side though.

A seriously bad part about this too(obviously not the worst) for Kobe’s family is he owned the Helicopter. I would not be surprised if the remaining family members of the others in the crash don’t take his estate to court.

You’re probably right about that unfortunately. One can only hope any such legal issues get resolved quietly by negotiated settlement where the parties understand their shared tragedy should bring them together instead of tearing them apart. If anything like that becomes a public spectacle it just makes things worse for everybody.

Ya that’s what I’m hoping. Just the fact everyone onboard was families in some capacity, really makes this whole thing even worse.

They dropped which indicates other issues. I'm not a helicopter expert so not sure if they stall like airplanes but it is ne or just one thing that causes a crash.  There is always contributing factors.  Fog will be the biggest thing thrown around, not sure if helicopters can do ifr flights but if they can then fog wouldn't be a issue. But it is all speculation til more info.

Ya they can stall(actually just learned that from a British air ambulance show). Obvious it’s not quite the same physics but the result is the same.

They just released some audio from the tower that said the pilot was flying below radar range for a majority of time if not all of it. Which points  towards other issues.
