PFF: Panthers have 5 of the top 100 2020 UFA

McCoy is a great guy and would always be awesome to have in the locker room... But I have to agree with MHS

He was rushing the passer and not giving that much concern about his gap responsibility.  As players get older, they have to cheat.  He was cheating the run to get the sacks--that is what the stats suggest anyhow.

And he is turning 32 in a month... It's only going to get worse from here.

I know we lost KK last year/were terrible on d all around/etc but when a DT is playing 68% of the snaps and your team's run defense is one of the very worst in the league... Just doesn't look too good.

Disagree on Bradberry, I think we have to pay him. If we let him go, who's going to play corner? Especially considering Donte's inconsistency so far. Price tag might end up being too much but I'd hope we at least try to keep him. He's not an elite corner, but he's been solid against some pretty stiff competition.

One of Marty's better off-season transactions, Bucs didn't tender Elliott, he became an UFA and Panthers got him on a really cheap 1-year deal.

I literally didn’t see him get beat that often last year at all . Usually teams kill us from the slot not this year and he the reason why . A solid 2 year deal we need to get it done

We were gashed vs. the run.  If he only had 10 tackles that weren't sacks, and he was in the game 2/3 of the time, that means he made less than 1 tackle per game.  He was rushing the passer and not giving that much concern about his gap responsibility.  As players get older, they have to cheat.  He was cheating the run to get the sacks--that is what the stats suggest anyhow.  How much did those 15 tackles cost us?  Were the 15 tackles (5 of which were sacks) worth the long runs through his gap?  I would say "nosireee bob!"

I agree with you but 8 million a year for McCoy isn’t bad. Assuming that we could get him again for that price tag. We have nothing after Short. We are looking at losing not one, not two but three DTs this offseason.

That is more than $500,000 for each tackle.  I am not a fan of the idea, but we are very thin at DT

I prefer Vernon Butler over McCoy, but I have big concern about the guy. He has had some off the field issues. Has struggled until this past season. Butler could really get a team out there somewhere that is willing to give him 10 million a year. I like Butler at 8 million a year but I’m scared.

Elliot will be relatively cheap and might be back.  Boston and Bradberry will depend on what they want and what the new staff thinks of them.  Mccoy might decide he wants to go to a contender, and would probably be good depth at a team that is on the cusp.  But if he wants to come back relatively cheap, I wouldn't be opossed.  I don't see Williams coming back.

    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
    • Depends if they see the writing on the wall with their roster and contracts and decide to bite the bullet and begin a complete rebuild and roster overhaul.  I have no clue why some franchises (IE us) refuse to do this and keep half assing trying to win 8 games or so.  Do it correctly, take your lumps and build a contender.  We shall see what loomis decides.
    • Each team plays 17 games.  I do not see why they don't just have each team play one international game per year.  Neutral site game, 8 home, 8 away.
