So we are really going to try and bring college to the NFL? How many times has this failed before?

College has been influencing and helping the NFL evolve for years, rather than vice versa.

College has been taking over, despite the reluctance of some old schoolers.

It's changing the game and teams have to adapt or die. Apparently we are making a departure from our old school philosophy, which is to not fight the wave of change or tread water hoping to stay afloat, but get out in front and ride it.

Blackburn is at the Senior Bowl with Rhule. So is Jake Peetz. Looks like those two are hanging on.

No. Far as I know, he's unemployed at the moment.

I’m glad about Blackburn. Outside of a miserable stretch after Rivera got fired (2 punt return TDs in 1 game against us!) our ST units under Chase have been the most solid and consistent we’ve had in a long time, if not ever. I can brush off that stretch as it’s clear the entire team had completely given up on the season.

He's one of the few members of the old staff that didn't pack their bags and hop a flight to DC at their earliest convenience.

Besides Blackburn and Peetz, the ones who didn't follow Rivera are Norv (retiring, I'd guess) Cotchery (apparently unemployed) Eric Washington (now Bills DL Coach) Perry Fewell (also unemployed at the moment) and Joe Kenn (apparently about to be unemployed, which kinda sucks).

Side Note: From what I've seen, Redskin fans seem to be pretty much gaga over Ron.

I can understand why they would be after their last several coaches. But it’ll fade quick and they better hope he wins a SB in his first few years there because if not he will never adjust and it won’t happen. I’m happy for him though and will root for them when it doesn’t affect us at all.

Same here. To quote Rhule, Rivera "believes what he believes" as any good coach would. However, the game is changing and we can see that with more coaching hires from the college ranks and rules that are heavily slanted to the offensive side of the ball - a change I'm sure coaches like Rivera are not too quick to embrace. After years of conservative play calling and mediocre results, I'm excited about the new direction of this team.

add to that the last two years we had a guy running a “pro” offense that was using the same principles as what he was running 25-30 years ago, and before that we had a guy running a “pro” offense using the same principles that offenses in the 1970s had.

most of us are sick of this team living in the past and it’s finally changing. if it doesn’t work then it doesn’t work. but it’s better to try something new and innovative for once instead of failing the same old way over and over again.

Matt Rhule's decision to leave Baylor for the Panthers head coaching opening marks the next installment in a long series of college coaches trying their hand at the NFL level.
Thought it's unknown how he will fare in the pros, we do know that the history of college coaches in the NFL is by-and-large a tale of failure rather than success but my gut feeling is that his will be a success.
Even though the college to pro transition has been a perilous one for head football coaches, Rhule is smart,a leader of men and has winner written all over his makeup..
I often wonder if the hard transfer is due to dealing with adults rather than kids?  Is it due to the higher win totals being harder to reach in the pros (making comparisons more difficult)? Is it the higher level of competition and talent spread across 32 teams rather than 120?
Or is it due to the source of the athletic talent which is a controlled draft rather than the wide-open nature of recruiting?

    • Responding to faking height. If you had some tightly wound braids on top of your head, be about the only thing that comes to mind that might get you a little extra.
    • Who mentioned anything about money? I said they are bad people. When you have that kind of power you tend to be a jerk. It's common that most rich people think they are above everyone else.   It's why these owners always get caught up in some scandal. There are more than we know about trust me. Some pay off people to keep quiet. Hell we already dealt with it with JR. My issue is not with their wealth. My issue is what that wealth brings which can be some evil tendencies...
