What the fug are you talking about...emotional attachment is clear with Cam because a lot of fans wouldn’t watch the Panthers without him. Comparing a injured 30 year old running qb most likely past his prime To a 23 year of who just joined the 1k/1k club in the middle or even before his prime and calling it all the same and emotional I mean if there’s no difference to you I mean the irony...that’s literally defining emotional attachment.

Puffing your chest out over individual accolades in a season where we won 1 divisional game and lost to multiple 2 win teams sounds like the definition of an emotional attachment. I don't mean to be unkind but I don't think you're playing with a full deck here.

JFC CMC is guaranteed to be a Carolina Panther for at least 3 more years already. He's also guaranteed to do it at a bargain rate as the best RB in the league.

WHY IN HELL would or should we be talking about extending him now?

This is what doomed Marty Hurney in his first tenure here, and y'all want to repeat the process? GTFO

For all Tepper is talking about analytics and his history as a smart businessman and things like that, do you think he's going to allow us to pay a RB now when he is guaranteed to already be here at least 3 more years at a bargain rate?

2 years unless you are talking about tagging him.

The only thing I can think of is they are trying to keep some fans in the seats over the next couple years while we rebuild.

The idea that running backs are done by age 30 is based on averages around the league. But if you look at guys who are very productive in their late 20s, they don't just drop off a cliff. Look at guys like Peterson who is 34 and had right at 900 yards this season. I anticipate McCaffrey to be that effective and more.

He's clearly worth it, and definitely deserves it. And I absolutely love having him on our team - obviously.

I am, however, uncertain if his value, at its highest right now, is better for the Panthers on the field with a big contract or as a chip to secure more assets. It's a question the decision makes will make, but I'd ponder on it a bit if it were up to me.

My thoughts on CMC have more to do with how he has progressed since entering the league 3 years ago and most importantly, for any contract, is what his role is, will be and can be for the FUTURE with the kind of coaches we hired. That has nothing to do with emotions. His record was cool and all to put in a post but it was just candy to illustrate a point.

You'd have to go back to 1998 to find a Super Bowl MVP that was a RB. You'd have to go back to maybe 2001 when a RB played a huge role in the Super Bowl.

This is a passing league now. We need QB play and WR play, which is driven by OL play.

CMC is a generational talent, sure. But we have WAY TOO MANY NEEDS to be even thinking about discussing this now.

I am talking about tagging him. We could even have him for 4 years if we wanted, and he still wouldn't be the highest paid RB in the league.

He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that cares about that. He wants to win. IF and when we extend him (post 2021,) I suspect it'll be for a bargain deal anyways.

If we have the franchise QB in place it is a much easier decision to make. Without one? Well let's just say we're Panthers fans and we know a thing or two about regret over big contract extensions.

That's true, but we're talking generational talent here, not a career backup in line to start in their last year, ya know?

BUT HE'S ALREADY PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEED TO BE HERE AT LEAST 3 MORE YEARS FOR CHEAP.

JFC guys do you even know how money and/or the salary cap work?

It's clear they dont.  They are arguing about locker rooms,  generational talent and whatnot.  The CBa is in place for a reason.  No way we would circumvent a rule in our favor especially when we clearly don't need to.  He hasn't even remotely threatened to sit out.  To go to him unprompted with a record breaking deal is corky level stupid.
