4. Carolina Panthers (from NYG)*

Justin Herbert | QB | Oregon

While the Dolphins moving up for Tagovailoa wouldn’t be a surprise, this move might be a bit more of a shock. New head coach Matt Rhule will be overseeing a huge rebuild, though, and will likely want to hand-pick his quarterback. Herbert followed up a solid career at Oregon with a Rose Bowl MVP and a strong week at the Senior Bowl, making him worthy of top-five consideration.

Ah yes, the dream scenario where we trade up, losing draft picks, in order to be the team reaching for a QB this draft.

Does this draft move come with a shot of bleach?

I hate responding to morons but that “bad Utah” tape is crazy.  He was hit consistently at his legs and played well outside of 2 throws.  This guy is talented as hell.

I watched his game against LSU, Boise State, Wake Forest, and quite a few games in 2018. Dude is a career back-up. Draft him in 3rd or 4th round, perhaps, but he's Ryan Finley, Jake Fromm, or whomever else.

LOL, you watched his freshman games at Ga.  Congrats man.  Disagree completely as I actually watched some Washington games.  Also, disagree with your very shallow assessment anyway.

With Eason, you are attracted to his skill set, not college accolades.  He gradually got a bit better.  If we brought in Brady to develop QBs, maybe we should let the team consider kids with the talent and skill set who are trying to figure it out?

I was watching a preseason game several years ago, with some buddies of mine (guys I coached with at a high school).  We always scrimmage the Pats--it was before they were great.  Bledsoe left the game after the first quarter, and this backup #12 came in.  I told the guys I was sitting with, "Guys, I think #12 looks better than Bledsoe."  They laughed at me--gave me hell all the way home (an hour from Charlotte).  Every time I tried to defend myself, they would laugh.

I never let them forget that.  They were ruthless. It took a few years, but I seek them out---they all have amnesia---just like these scholar Huddlers. The fact is, you just don't know.

If you're going to draft a QB, Eason is a guy I don't mind drafting as long as we accept that the guy isn't starting from day 1. If we believe we can develop him and he can succeed Cam or whatever pylon we put in front of him for a year or so, then I'm fine with drafting him after the 1st.

The problem for me is HAVING to select a QB with the 1st because we move on from Cam or are looking for his successor when there is so much talent available in the draft at 7. QBs are getting so much hype, now more than ever, in the draft. Teams reach so hard on them and justify it with "you need a QB to win in this league." Which is a fantastic statement, but if you're about to line up your 6th WR at Left Tackle, and a DB at DT, then you really aren't a QB away from winning the league now are you?

You draft smart regardless of position and you put in the work to get your QB when you see him. There is no forcing it, and that's what far too many people don't understand.
