REPORT: Panthers would still like to interview Eagles executive Andrew Berry

  • The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Panthers would still like to interview Eagles executive Andrew Berry for their general manager vacancy, but that Philadelphia will only grant permission if Berry is to have final roster say in Carolina.

If Berry doesn't have control of the 53-man roster, it would be a lateral move, allowing the Eagles to deny permission, as they have already done. Perhaps the Panthers would be willing to come back with an amended request, but it is hard to believe that new coach Matt Rhule will not have final say in Carolina.

Just now, frash.exe said:

the report is inaccurate; there is currently no GM vacancy. that’s why the panthers can’t do poo if the eagles decline permission

Yup. If we really want this guy, Tepper needs to officially demote Hurney.  It's only beneficial if this is the guy we want at the helm.

Prior to his time with the Browns, Berry worked for the Indianapolis Colts for seven years (2009-15). He was originally hired by Indianapolis as a scouting assistant and was promoted to pro scout in 2011. One year later, he was elevated to pro scouting coordinator and served in that role for his final four seasons with the club. During Berry's tenure in Indianapolis, the Colts won four AFC South titles, made five postseason appearances and advanced to Super Bowl XLIV.
