I think Luke knows the Panthers are planning to move on from Cam

If I was a betting man I would say that had a huge part in Luke's decision to call it quits. Olsen will probably ask for a trade to a contender or retire for the booth. Cam will be used as trade bait to try and move up in the draft and if he isn't moved I think he will be outright released. They will let Bradberry walk along with the majority of our pending free agents.

This will mark the start of the rebuild. I fully expect a QB to be selected in round 1.

The unfortunate victim of all this will be McCaffery who will be kept to help ticket sales and keep butts in seats.

I really hate this but I have come to terms with this being the most likely reality.

The fact that Tepper kept Ron another year after a disaster of a season and Marty Hurney is still employed is making it really hard to have much faith in him.

Our offense with a new coaching staff has the potential to be really good. If Greg plays one more year this would be the most offensive talent Cam has had since 2013. I just think it would be incredibly stupid to give up on Cam without seeing him under new coaching.

Use our first on a guy like Isaiah Simmons to replace Luke and use the rest of the draft to beef up the trenches. Use FA to fill holes in the defense to cater to who ever the new coordinator is.

I just think it would be a massive mistake to not give Cam an opportunity to prove himself after everything he has done for this franchise. Unfortunately I think Luke's retirement was a major indication of the direction Tepper is choosing to go. Matt Rhule may be looking for a QB his entire time in Carolina.

People just need to prepare for a crappy season next year until Rhule can get this mess ironed out.

gonna be a bumpy ride, but I believe it’s going to be for the better in the long term. Remember we are changing everything that JR did to this franchise. New owner means EVERYTHING is changing.

Everyone keeps saying this rebuild will be worth it. Lmao. Says who? That is a huge gamble that honestly is going to be hard to pull off. How do you know we're going to be competitive 2 years from now, 3 years from now? There isn't any guarantee in that. Jettisoning the best Qb to ever play for this franchise without giving him an opportunity with this staff would be the dumbest thing this franchise has ever done. Ever. We could VERY EASILY become the browns of the NFC. You just can't move on from a talent like Cam and think your team is going to still be competitive even 2-3 years from now.

If Cam is healthy, it will be a huge mistake to let him go. Picking up is option I believe will be around 19 million which is “peanuts” this day in age for QBs. It would be silly to get rid of him and sign a journey man vet. I will get this out of the way, the Panthers will not “go all in” to to get Burrows. Cincy is going to keep that pick. Now Burrows May be a great QB in the pros but I can name a lot of QBs who was killing it in college only to disappear at the pro level. Does anyone remember Colt Brennan? He is the guy that Burrows has broken his record. Where is he? All I’m saying is that if Cam is healthy. You roll with him and see how next year pans out. I noticed a lot of people saying that we should tank next year for Lawrence but why? Waste a season to get a guy who maybe will be good or bad at the pro level? We need to play to win each season. Anything less is unacceptable. Time is something you can’t get back so I don’t believe in ways believe in wasting opportunities. Now if it is proven that Cam is not healthy, we have a whole new ball game but we will see. I want to see him in this new system if possible . Keep pounding!

Well, let's say this plays out the way you're saying. Let's look at the roster if we don't re-sign any of our free agents from this point forward.

T: Dennis Daley, Matt Kaskey, Taylor Moton, Greg Little
G: Trai Turner
C: Matt Paradis, Tyler Larsen
WR: DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, Brandon Zylstra
TE: Chris Manhertz, Ian Thomas, Greg Olsen (assuming he doesn't retire/leave)
QB: Cam Newton, Will Grier
RB: CMC, Jordan Scarlett, Mark Davis
FB: Alex Armah

DE/Edge: Efe Obada, Brian Burns, Christian Miller, Marquis Haynes
DT: Woodrow Hamilton
LB: Shaq Thompson, Jermaine Carter, Jordan Kunaszyk, Andre Smith
CB: Corn Elder, Donte Jackson
S: Colin Jones, Eric Reid

K: Graham Gano
P: Michael Palardy
LS: JJ Jansen

34 players, 35 if Greg stays. Obviously we have guys on the practice squad/futures contracts that I'm not factoring in to active roster at this time.

We cannot NOT re-sign some of these guys.

Worth noting, we have some exclusive rights guys that are almost certainly coming back. Maybe not all of them, but the majority.

QB: Kyle Allen
RB: Reggie Bonnafon
TE: Marcus Baugh
T: Brandon Greene
G: Kitt O'Brien
S: Cole Luke
K: Joey Slye

Dontari Poe and Jarius Wright have team options that must be picked up before the league year begins.

I think this kind of stuff played into his decision, going by some of the language he used in his goodbye video.  There is alot of change going on around the organization, but at this point he lost the only head coach he's ever known in the NFL and he's getting ready to lose his quarterback on top of the other changes.  I think that's why his language was more about "I'm taking this opportunity to leave."
