Should the Panthers go all in on Joe Burrow?

So you would give up nearly 2 full drafts for one player?  Think about how long it will take to build a team without a draft for 2 years.  No, you never give up that much for one player I don't care who that player is.  You guys are nuts.

Look how many drafts we’ve pissed away.

Outside of Burns and probably Daley just this last draft is looking pretty forgettable.

Your drafts picks are only valuable if you’re able to draft properly which we haven’t shown an ability to do so

I’m really torn on how we should approach this offseason.

Option 1, try to pull of a miracle draft, free agency period and hope the new coaching staff can over achieve and make us competitive this year.

Option 2. Blow the whole fuging thing up. Trade off any skill player who isn’t under contract or have an option year that pushes them into 2022 on their rookie deal. Dedicate the draft capital gained to rebuilding the roster, starting with the trenches. Then next year go ham with all the rolled over cap space and other acquired draft picks from the fire sale on what few coveted players we may have.

Option 1 sounds ideal, but if we suck and waste cap money on players who just contribute to another losing season, we are digging a deep hole for the future.

Realistically there has to be a balance between option 1 and 2. I think that means getting younger, only inking young talent to deals and not wasting cap space on vets who can only contribute for 1-2 years max.

We would have to nail the draft, have the good fortune of health at key positions such as QB, and develop young talent already on the roster. I imagine anything’s possible but there’s a large degree of risk at hand.

So your solution is to keep throwing them away but this time just on one player?   I wish you guys would listen to yourself.

Can won't be traded.  He will be released and maybe you get 3rd next year but let's just drop this fantasy trade idea.  And Burrow will cost more than the value chart indicates you can bank on that.

This team is NOT one player away from competing.  They need way more draft picks than they have.

What do you think he will cost?

2 first round picks and a second sound about right.

Cant see any team giving up 3 first. Maybe 2 first and 2 2nd.

I don't think there is an argument for it.

I mean, rebuilding generally doesn't involve trading away all your draft picks for a player and we clearly are rebuilding.  Rebuilding means acquiring draft picks and unloading bodies.  Sucking hard in 2020.  Getting our franchise QB in 2021.

Mediocrity.

If you think Burrow is the guy, yes, you go all in.  Some key questions to ask yourselves:

1.  Look at Marty's drafts after round 1.  Value?  Not really--could we send Cincy the Panthers entire draft and Cam and still come out on top?   (Imagine you think Burrow is the next Brees or Brady--how do you like the deal now?)

2. Could we find better talent that the picks we traded with the  Cam Cap Savings (about $20m)?

3. In the best case scenario, considering Cam was the QB of "mediocrity" in the eyes of Tepper (assumption), how much longer does Cam play at a top 10 QB level?  In the best case scenario, how much longer will Burrow have?  Could he be better than Cam, who has hovered around 10 his entire career?

You guys with all the emotional loyalty would be terrible GMs and you need to stop responding to threads that promote your hopes, wishes, and dreams even though they are often void of business sense.

The plan has already been announced.  We are going young--we have a young player motivator, a young QB whisperer, and we are looking to build for the long term.  On what planet does Cam fit into that equation?

Whatever Cincinnati wants.  You can bet your ass that value chart will get thrown back in your face.

You’re right. We should keep wasting picks on guys like Will Grier and the long list of other awful non first round draft picks under Hurney and hopefully one day hit the jackpot.

I don't see the Bengals accepting any offer we make. They have to either come away with Burrow or Tua and moving down to 7 means that won't happen.

I am leaning that way, but someone said something to me the other day that I can't shake out of my melon.  "What if Burrow reminds Cincy of Dalton?"  He explained his reasons and the more he talked, the more he made sense--but I walked away unconvinced.

Still, the Bengals may like Tua or Herbert better (are they over Akili Smith yet?  Another Ore QB?) if it means they get a Cam and maybe a pick or two.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
