It means that of his $15.5 mil that we will only generate $3.67 mil in cap space, while also losing Luke Kuechly. Basically, about the worst possible thing imaginable.

That is something I wish the league would change.  If a player retires, only the part already paid to him should count.  Future monies shouldn't.
