They will entertain offers, might have already got some. If a team goes overboard then I can see Cam being traded. I personally wouldn’t offer anything until I knew he was 100%.

They could technically offer the next 10 1st rounders, and he won't be able to pass the physical currently to make the deal finalized.

His decision to wait so long on surgery is a pretty big monkey wrench in the gears this offseason.

He has likely played his last down as a Panther.

What can we get?

For Cam? Most likely a 4th and 7th. Maybe a 3rd instead of a 4th. It's more about the money.

A lot of what we could get would somewhat be determine by Cam.

If he is unwilling to sign a long term dead with the team he is trading to that would greatly diminish his trade value.  Basically that team would just be willing to trade for a one year rental.  Also his health is going to be huge.

Also if he is only willing to sign a long term deal that is comparable to the top QBs in the league, that also diminishes his trade value.

Ask yourself this, how many teams in the league would be willing to pay Cam $30m a year for 4-5 years?  Of those teams how many would be willing to give up substantial assets for that "right"?  Maybe a 2nd?.  If they were smart they would ask for more picks based on production. That way if we plays well for the new team they get more out of the deal.  If he returns to some of his old form I think the new team would be more than happy to add picks to the deal

That being said it only takes one, actually two would be nice, let them bid against each other.  We need a team that probably has a great defense, who thinks they are just a QB away.  Maybe a team that has an owner that wants his franchise to be relevant.  Adding someone like Cam would definitely add some attention to some franches.

I don't think Cam would garner a 1st rounder at this point.  Ideally, he is our QB next season.

I know losing Luke hurts, but this forum has gone completely off the rails today.  Trade Cam, trade CMC.  Yikes.

With this team so devoid of talent we might be better off getting a 2nd or 3rd for him and drafting a QB next year. It would probably be best for both sides but if Cam is determined to see us thought this rebuild I'm all for it. I know for a fact though his stock doesn't go up next year. Two many holes to fill unfortunately. Rivera and Hurney have left us with low talent on both sides of the ball. We can also blame DG for that as well.

If the Panthers are building for long term similar to the Steelers they should trade or release Cam, even if his present health checks out and that is somewhat doubtful. If they want to go .500 this year and next and rebuild later then they should try keeping Cam,settle for  a couple of sub par seasons and prolong the rebuilding process.

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
