Regarding Eli...

Oddly enough, he did not thank or mention Ben McAdoo in his retirement speech :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

Mara is the ONLY reason Eli has even been on the team for the past two years. I expect his separation anxiety will be severe.

They told kind of a cool story about dad Wellington Mara.

Back in 2005, he was seriously ailing and for the most part not coherent at all. But just a few days before his death, his family was gathered around him watching the Giants play (the Broncos I think, not certain). They said Mara regained consciousness just long enough to see Eli throw a game winning pass, and he put his arms up to make a "touchdown" signal.

This was apparently his last moment of consciousness and the last thing he saw. He died just a short time later.

Reminds me of Dan Rooney saying that his Dad, Art Rooney Sr, told him one more time on his deathbed that “you should have taken Marino”. Said his Dad never forgave him for passing on him. I know I never have.

Peyton was quoted as saying that Eli was his third favorite quarterback after their dad...and Dan Marino :)

I remember when people would ask hypothetical questions about which quarterback you would take for blah, blah, blah...my answer was always Dan Marino.  Now its Aaron Rodgers.

Regarding Mike McCarthy...

I've heard of going from coaching to the front office. Can't say I ever remember seeing the reverse.

His title was Director of Player Development at one point, so it sounds like he kind of spanned both worlds.

I've seen some recent general managers that have unofficial coaching experience.  They run some on field drills and whatnot and observe practices each day, but never have coaching experience on their resume.  As a side note I do remember Herm Edward's said he wanted to be a personnel guy originally and even started down that path as a scout, but Tony Dungy convinced him to get back on the coaching path.

I am pretty happy we passed on McCarthy.  I get the impression he was saying what he thought others wanted to hear to get hired.

He may do well in Dallas (good luck).  But I don't feel he would have been the right fit for Carolina and what Tepper was looking for.  He just tried acting like he was.

McCarthy has a long history of doing things a certain way in Green Bay that he can continue in Dallas but wouldn't work in Carolina or alot of other teams.  In other words, I think he was a good hire for a "favored franchise" but it could backfire if a non favored team would have hired him.

I've heard a couple of people here mention this name.

Report: Ravens will listen to trade offers for Matthew Judon

Quote

The Ravens say they want to keep defensive end Matthew Judon, but they apparently are willing to listen to offers as well.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Ravens are considering using the franchise tag on Judon and then listening to trade offers.

Expect the price to be high.
