Nepotism will torpedo the Matt Rhule era before it starts

Hey more power to you man. But it seems pretty likely that team officials are at least scanning this board and getting a pulse of the fanbase. Now is the time for change. Now is the time to get your opinion out there.

I just don't want this team to do the same exact thing the old hard-headed coach did and see the same failures yet again. We had two straight decades of the same old sh!t.

This place is not the pulse of the fan base!

Yes, the whole point of this thread is to bring up the fact the old head coach blatantly hired his friends and even family members of other coaches.

The new coach is rumored to be bringing in guys he is close with, who might not necessarily be the most qualified for the job.

I don't want to see it happen again.

But y'all can keep trying to debate the definition of the word with me, sure.

Nepotism usually applies to cases of hiring someone [edit: with familial or friend ties, obviously] unqualified, versus someone that is arguably less qualified.  There may be favoritism at work here, but nepotism requires a lack of qualification that is an assumption on your part.

Now, if Snow did not have any DC coaching experience in college etc your argument would be clearer.  But hiring an apparently good college DC to  NFL DC position is not nepotism.

i think somebody needs to take a bath in the jesus rays rhule is shooting all over the place willy nilly style.   we may not be good for a couple years.   its ok.     if the team is playing their hearts out this coming year, regardless of results, we'll be on the right path

Can we stop with all the negativity and not judge the product before it's even been produced. This is the most excited I have been as a Panthers fan in a long time. I'm not gonna worry about stuff that is out of my control.

Our previous head coach stuck with comfortable bros he had worked with for way too long and it tanked the team into oblivion.

Although he has not done so yet, all indications are that Matt Rhule is bringing in all guys he has worked with before to fill out the staff. Not sure if he will be interviewing any other coaches from around the league to fill his staff. But I hope so.

I think Sean Ryan from the Lions looks like a strong up and comer and could be a great hire as offensive coordinator. At least he has been working away from Rhule for a bit to continue growing as a coach.

I think hiring Phil Snow, a retirement age journeyman coach who has never had success at the NFL level seems like a failure of a hire. He is 64 years old and has never coached anything more than the linebacker position at the NFL level, for the 0-16 2008 Lions of all teams.

I hope Tepper or someone from the Panthers staff is reading this. Don't hire who is comfortable!!! Get outside the box. The last coaching staff did what was comfortable. For the love of god and all that is holy, don't make the same mistakes of the last coach.

EDIT: Adding the definition of "nepotism" since it seems necessary based on the responses so far.

OH My GODDDDDDDD you people are maddening.  Its all so tiresome.  We get it, you're chosen guy didnt get picked.  You think maybe he knows a little more about picking assistant coaches than you do?  Seems hes been pretty damn successful with the guys he wants so far, so let him do his thing.  You have absolutely no idea how any of this is going to turn out.  You people with your goddamn negativity. I dont need it! Im an idea man, I thrive on enthusiasm!

Beat up on the definition of nepotism all you all want who cares? The real point of the thread is the concern about Snow’s ability to lead an NFL defense. It’s currently my biggest concern and it’s a creeping feeling. Guys like DJax are going to test their coaches and we have a big group of vets in FA some of whom may stick around. If things continue to be bad on defense we’re going to have a locker room problem.

I wish I could have the blind faith that many of you people have but if we're talking logically here how much NFL experience do these two coaches have between them? Not very much at all is it? And they hold two of the most important coaching positions on a coaching staff. Is it a guarantee they fail? No of course not but it gives us every reason to be skeptical because history has shown us the NFL isn't to kind to the inexperienced. So yes there will be some of us that don't share the blind faith like many of you "real" fans have and hey if it helps you people to sleep better at night telling yourselves its okay for Rhule and his college organization to blow things up and suck for the foreseeable future, fine by me. I just don't see the enjoyment in that.

Its not "blind faith".  Its called giving them a chance to do the job they were hired to do.  The ink is not even dry yet on his contract and people here are acting like its a foregone conclusion that hes going to fail and we will need a new coach in 3 years.
