Rhule: “I don’t fire coaches. I don’t believe in it. I believe continuity wins. For me, I’ve never really fired a coordinator"

you don't have to fire your subordinates when they leave for head coaching opportunities elsewhere

It killed both Fox and Rivera here eventually. I think just about any good coach eventually has this happen to them and it's hard to recover, particularly after a Superb Owl appearance. Attrition man. It just takes a small stream wearing away over the years to make the Grand Canyon.

Somehow Belichick can keep it rolling, but even guys like Andy Reid and Pete Carroll suffer from it.

Jesus, is this really happening? So glad we fired a two time coach of the year prior to the season ending to conduct a thorough coaching search to end up with the coaching staff from a mid tier college program.

And Wade Phillips is still available?!?!?!

Business is business, but it's sort of funny.

*shrugs*

I mean if you’re a D1 player and your program does so well that your coach gets hired in the NFL, you’re not exactly gonna be shocked if he takes some coaches with him. Heck you should be proud, your performance on the field helped create that opportunity for those men. The school that you play for has a vested interest in hiring other outstanding coaches to replace them.

I had forgotten that Cam and Luke  won coach of the year twice.

Think about it---he has been the head coach at 2 places that improved dramatically the entire time he was there---and he was not there long---because he improved dramatically the time he was there.  You do not fire coordinators when you are improving dramatically every year.

Right. Whether you love Rhule, hate him, or like me are just waiting to see and hoping for the best, I think it will be interesting to see how he adapts mentally and emotionally when he’s not able to create a situation where the trajectory is always up.

Tepper has demonstrated by making a fortune during the financial crisis that he has the intestinal fortitude and patience to see things through when the pressure is making everyone else crazy. I’m not worried about him 3 years down the road and no playoffs. We know the huddle will overreact wildly to anything and everything, that part is a lock.

The question mark is Rhule himself. How will he respond to 6-10 3 years out? Will he doubt himself? His staff? Will he alter the process in some fundamental way or make a move that goes against it? How does a guy who’s never had to face long term adversity as a coach respond when sports yak and message boards are full of talking heads and keyboard warriors calling for his job?
