I mean, I am not against him coming back for dirt cheap in a 100% depth/back up role.  You aren't going to get quality guys there anyways.

I just don't want him to touch the field unless there are injuries.

But if he's on the roster then there's a chance he'll see the field at some point. Injuries or not, I'd prefer to completely eliminate that chance.

I get the Williams hate.  But whoever is our 3rd string tackle has a chance to see the field and will suck.

I don't hate Williams. It's really unfortunate that he got hurt and that injury is badly limiting him as a player. But fear of doing worse than atrocious is a terrible reason to stick with atrocious.

I didn't mean outright hate.  Just a general dislike of his personal game.

I am not fearful of someone doing worse than atrocious.  I am completely accepting that whoever our 3rd string tackle would be (for example), would be atrocious by default.  Because teams don't have good 3rd string linemen.  Or else they wouldn't be 3rd string.  Not in this league.  Outside of finding a rare gem that immediately moves up the depth chart.

Im there with you, yes he was awful maybe the worst of all the bad bunch. I nearly sign anyone for vet minimum, that has Williams resume. It did not work this year, still he got exp at OG and another year past his injury.

At-least hes not soft like most of the OL/DL, he played hurt and was a former 2nd team ALL-pro. Hes still "young" and can get over this past year.

We won't keep him at this point..we might jettison many vets at this point. We aren't in win now mode. Rhule has the luxury to lose and have few expectations much like Rivera in 2011. We will keep a core of vets around but Tepper and Hurney are clearly telling you we won't be spending big this year on free agents and will not be renewing guys who are free agents if they are close to the end of their careers.

What's the upside of keeping Daryl Williams?

I think the OP is right. There is a place for Daryl, cleaning the stalls or scanning tickets at the gate. No thank you to having him come back on the Oline. Also, Poe has sucked every year he has been here. Poe does not command double teams anymore and Luke pays for it, so your comparison is true. They both need to go.

I mean, if my options are two completely trash back up linemen that I sincerely hope never see the field (because at a certain point, thats what your OL depth is)..one of the up sides will be familiarity with the team, players, etc.  And yeah, there are definitely upsides that other trash back up linemen can bring to the table (age/potential to grow into more, etc).  So I am not against kicking him to the streets.  Only that if its for dirt cheap and with the understanding he is depth at best...then I am not exactly against it.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
