Okudah is the perfect Rhule draft pick

If the #7 pick is anything other than OT or DT, something has gone horribly wrong.

CB talent in this draft falls off big time after Okudah. There’s only one DT being projected as a top 10 pick. This draft is decently deep at oline and especially deep at WR. Okudah checks all of the boxes for what Rhule is about. We also need to see what’s available on the free agent market at these positions.

Unfortunately add QB to that list, as we COULD be in the market.

This draft is Burrow and Tua and a bunch of super questionable QBs after that. Even the two of them have questions. Next year is a better crop.

We're not one piece away from a Super Bowl. There's no one OT or DT that will fix our team. There's not even a garuntee the only top 10 OT on the board will be there when we pick.

I don't think Okudah makes it past the Lions (of course, it's only January.) But goddamn you don't build a team by just looking at your biggest weakness and going "WE HAVE TO FIX THIS."

WR, Secondary, IOL, and IDL are our big needs. If we can get one of those in the top 10 we've improved as a team.

Normally I’m super inclined to agree with this approach. This particular offseason, I’m looking at it differently for a specific reason.

IF Cam is our qb next year, given his injury history and the paramount importance of franchise qb’s, I think any approach that doesn’t make upgrading his protection the most urgent priority would be a mistake.

If we move on from Cam, all bets are off and yeah it’s gonna take a few years so BPA all day. If Thomas and Wirfs are gone by 7, get BPA in 1st and do what you can to address o line in later rounds. But if Thomas or Wirfs are sitting there at 7 and we’re bringing Cam back, I think that’s gotta be the pick.

Just my two shekels.

While I agree, I do believe Tua will drop and be there at 7. If so, what do we do? I think we wait but some on here believe Tua is the next Montana.

Would much rather wait for next year's QBs & work on OL & DL this year. Herbert is way overrated & honestly doesn't matter who you put back there as QB, they're gonna get murdered behind our swiss cheese line anyway if we don't make that our first priority.

Extremely unlikely a CB will be the pick imo.

There’s no way Rhule watches tape from last year and thinks he needs to go cb in round one. You win games in the trenches and our trenches suck

But our trenches can be fixed throughout free agency which has been said in this thread. The whole draft is usually set up by a team’s free agency moves but I believe you add pure top talents when you can to become a top team consistently.

I have a perfect example Saints 2017 draft pick 11 Lattimore CB—pick 32 Ryan R OT both excellent players but you scoop the top talent based off upside I would think. That’s how we can get the most out of our players our second pick should be a nasty OG to fill in next to one of our two LT.

He's good

But when you have the worst DL in Football, with the leagues worst run defense

And the leagues 3rd worst pass protection OL.

Your team is going to be terrible.

Games are won in the trenches, and we are the leagues worst at both sides.

our DL isnt remotely the worst in football, they just all got injured. our DL rn looks serviceable atleast, but a runstuffer would be nice. still our o-line is currently atrocious.

They did also get hurt

Then, only Poe/KK are signed for next year and Poe may be a cap casualty.  So KK could be our only DT for next year and he's coming off IR

im not saying our DL is the best in  football or anything jsing i felt it was a bit of  astretch to call em the worst; burns, addison, short and poe seems like a decent front 4 to me. we have questions there but i think if we're looking DL we'd pick one up in round 3 or so
