Thats what I want to know.  Who do we get to take Cam's place?  Kyle Allen again?  Hope Tua falls to us in the draft?  Make a franchise changing trade up to draft Burrow?  Sign Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota?

There's just not a scenario where Allen or Grier are the answer.

If Cam is done you have to make a BIG move to show your fans you are committed to winning.

Did Greg Olsens Panthers career get ended by his foot injury?

He did re injure it AFTER surgery. He did miss more playing time. Doesn't seem to be able to play at the same level he was before the injury and may have played his last football. So do you think if Cam re injured his foot that he'd be fine?????

for the years we needed him yeah it did.   the shoulder is the more worrisome issue.  hard to believe it will survive behind what we'll be trotting out there at 0-line barring a miracle, specially if he stays as thin as he is.

I don't think anyone including the team think Allen or Grier are the answer.    The BIG move happened yesterday and everything going forward is a complete unknown.  The team is in full-on rebuild mode and there's no disguising it.  They expect to have a losing season next year a quit possibly in 2021 as well.   There will be a full reset either this off-season or the next.  You might as well prepare for it.

I love Cam but im worried about his shoulder. it could be shot

and that sucks because i want Cam a career panthers and i want to see him bounce back for us

Everyone would love that.  But it appears the team is unwilling to gamble that he will stay healthy enough to warrant another contract.  So we are in a really bad place right now.

I know the word rebuild has been thrown around here lately but do you honestly think Tepper just spent upwards of 70 million dollars and paid the 6 million dollar fee to Baylor just for us to trot out more mediocrity behind center again?

We were unequivocally the worst team in the league by the end of the season. Yes the front office will talk about patience, but even they know they have to bring in THEIR guy by 2021 at the latest if they move on from Newton.

In answer to this question, Tepper, Rhule and Hurney have used an amazing amount of words to say absolutely nothing over the past 24 hours.

In all fairness, what do people expect?

*If healthy .... Cam is our guy.  How many ways can you say that?

Sometimes there is no conspiracy, no deep state.  Sometimes you just have to wait on information.

He paid him to build a team and culture that fits his vision.  The team is in shambles all over the place.  There is no bandaid that's going to magically turn this team into a playoff team next year.  They expect there to be growing pains and are prepared for it.   Tepper has told everyone that was listening that it could be a 5 year rebuild.  Rebuild is the key word.

Can't argue the first thing I bolded, but Devil's advocate:

Cam showed us what he had in 2018 and the first two games of 2019. I was extremely disappointed. He was hurt and playing hurt, hurt the team.

2Coaching and remaining healthy players hurt the team. The only thing any player can do while hurt is give it their all. Maybe the healthy players should have looked at CAM and valued their health and played better the same with coaching. This team should have been inspired instead were deflated by coaching and poor evaluation.

The word "Build" comes up a lot around Rhule.  Do you "build" around Cam?  Even if healthy, he is looking at a $35m deal in 2021.  Can you build around an aging QB taking up over 10% of the cap?

That is the dilemma.  Love him all you want, that does not matter.

In my opinion, the term build or rebuild is a relative term.  In some ways, I think the Saints rebuilt to an extent after their three or so consecutive 7-9 seasons.  They did it by making wise draft picks and free agent signings, while hanging on to some of their best players, including Brees.  They had a good qb, and they built the team around him.  And it worked fairly well.

To win in this league, you have to have a good qb, and they are hard to obtain.  Drafting a QB is a crap shoot even if it is someone like Burrows or Lawrence.  Cam when healthy, is a good qb, one we can win with.    Which is why we can and should hang on to him if he is healthy enough to play.

Of course, I am of the opinion that we aren't as far away as some believe.  I think a couple of new linemen on both the dline and oline could make a world of difference.

Pretty much.

I have no doubt that Rhule has been told to be non-committal, and that's smart. Having him say one thing and then the end result be something else would put him in a bad light.

And besides, he just got here. He's never worked with Cam Newton. Hasn't even met him. Why would you put weight into his opinion?

    • OK, so this is a bit weird.  When I coached at Salisbury High School when I first started teaching, I used to go over to Catawba College to watch film and talk football with their coaches.  They were great. Curtis, Jalon's father, I assume, was a LB at Catawba and hired as LB coach by Bennett When Coastal started their program, they hired Catawba's coach Bennett.  Bennett must have taken Jalen's father with him to Coastal. I am guessing that is about the time Jalon was born and why he was in Conway. So then his father comes back to Salisbury after Jalen is born and takes the head coaching job. Jalen is a good interview.  I love the kid based on this, and I have heard good things from former colleagues of FB.  Salibury (when I was there) was a very rough school.  Gangs, drugs, etc.  To put it in perspective, I was there for 2.5 years and I had four (4) students in my class (at different times) who committed murder during that time. A girl was raped in the gym by a few boys.  One night, after a game (there is a road between the coaches offices in the gym and the rest of the school) the coaches watched film until 1 AM or so.  When we were leaving to walk to our cars parked across that street, we noticed a car sitting in the middle of the road about 100 yards away with its lights off.  The driver took off when we neared the street, so we all hit the ground.  As the car passed, we heard about 6 or 7 gunshots.  The next day, the van behind where we fell to the ground had 2 bullet holes in it, about 5 feet above the ground.  All that to say this:  If the young man on the video endured anything like that, I want him to succeed and I found it interesting that he mentioned playing for the Panthers.  I am not sold on the player as a fit here based on our needs, but I am sold on the person.  Very proud of him for some reason that many may not understand.
    • First off, he's not even eligible for a contract yet.  You have to play three years. And thank goodness! All we saw last year were glimpses.  Yes, those glimpses were enough that I think every fan wants to see him come back next year.  But bottom line is that so far, with only a couple games worth of exceptions, he hasn't yet shown that he's a FRANCHISE QB.  He hasn't shown the consistent ability to elevate the players around him. He could be the guy.  After week two of this year, just saying that much is a massive, massive positive swing.  But let's see him put it together for 17 games.  Let's see him make the people around him BETTER.  Then we can talk about extending him. Let's not lose sight of the fact that thus far in his career, in no season has BY exceeded the rookie stats of MAC JONES. We should  be excited for the possibility, but we certainly haven't seen yet what we need to see to declare we have our guy.
    • People cared as it was happening, but after a year or two, most people had moved on. There was no public outcry to bring the NBA back to Charlotte, it just happened.
