Marty on Rhule and Cam Newton status

Cam has put his body on the line for this organization and willed them to victory over and over and over. I would seriously hate for them to turn their back on him now. With the time he has had off and rest he could come back rejuvenated and better than ever next year. I would hate to see that Cam on another team. It would piss me off that we didn't give him the opportunity to prove himself and just kicked him out the door. Players get injured, players go on IR. Cam has made it clear he wants to be in Carolina. You won't find anyone with more heart or love for the game than Cam. Give him a chance to show you what he's got and I'm pretty sure you're not gonna be disappointed.

I get it....but Cam is beat up bad. we dont really know if the shoulder will give him problems again or his foot will hinder him. Hes done a lot for us and love the sht outta the dude...but this is a business. they are looking at it as a 31 year old qb that is wore out....nothing gets better with age except wine.... Rhule is here to rebuild and my guess is he'll start stockpiling draft picks... coach and owner have no ties with him like we do..

They heal in 6-8 after surgery. From what I understood they easily get re injured if they heal without a procedure

Yes.  This.  They are not at any higher risk of reinjury if you get it surgically repaired.  It will actually be stronger than it was before.

Hiring someone like Rhule only makes sense if we are in full rebuild mode.  Teams that have rebuilt and been successful 4-5 years later pretty much have done everything possible to stock pile draft picks.

Smart teams that have rebuilt do it like that.....we are typically not a very smart team.

The word "Build" comes up a lot around Rhule.  Do you "build" around Cam?  Even if healthy, he is looking at a $35m deal in 2021.  Can you build around an aging QB taking up over 10% of the cap?

That is the dilemma.  Love him all you want, that does not matter.

I think that we can throw anything Pre-Tepper regarding this franchise completely out the window.  I am willing to give Dave a mulligan for the past 2 years as he wasnt able to get his people in the positions he wanted.  Now we are beginning to see him do just that.  There is a new sheriff in town, who just so happens to be the richest man in the NFL, and hes not afraid to throw his checkbook around to get what he wants.  Pretty much the complete opposite of Jerry Richardson.

Yes?  Its not different than any other team with a "franchise QB".  You must pay for top talent.

That doesn't sound very encouraging.  It DOES sound surprisingly deferential though, as if Rhule is calling the shots.

That being said, the most promising thing I've heard over the last 2 or 3 days regarding Cam was what Rhule said on SVP last night...  he again said he had just talked to Cam yesterday and has thr utmost respect for what he's done, he then paused and said, "and for what he will continue to do."  Don't think he'd care what Cam will be doing if it wasn't here, BUT, if that is the case, why not just say, "he's our QB, period."

Cam might be a gamble, but he's a better bet than anyone else. Let's see what he's got this year and make a decision after the season.

Thats what I want to know.  Who do we get to take Cam's place?  Kyle Allen again?  Hope Tua falls to us in the draft?  Make a franchise changing trade up to draft Burrow?  Sign Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota?

I THINK Rhule is a good hire....but Tepper has made some pretty questionable moves since he got here.

Keeping Marty and Ron was very questionable to me.  Marty still being in the building is questionable.  Allowing Marty to sign Shaq, and guarantee parts of KK's and Trai's contracts when he likely knew we were staring a rebuild in the face is questionable.

All but asking the city council for tax dollars for a new stadium while losing home game after home game.  Etc....

Maybe Rhule is the start to a new Panthers team, but I'm going to need to see more before I would call us a "smart team".

So you think we should just let ALL of our current players walk?  Dont try to resign anybody from the previous regime?  You still need some veteran leadership, and some known commodities on the team even if you are totally rebuilding.

It's just coach speak so he doesn't get into trouble later on.

The last thing that he can do is say that "I want Cam as my QB going forward", and then cut him the day after the draft, or trade him for a 3rd during the draft.

It would sound very much like "we didn't sign him to trade him".  He is walking on eggshells about the roster so far.

Where did I say that?  You putting words in my mouth?

I would have resigned Bradberry last offseason, before he could taste free agency, and I would offer Moton a contract extension right now....I just don't think I would have put even more money into our linebacking corps when it's not a position group that directly equals wins.

O Line, D Line, QB, CB, then LB.

    • I'd rather figure out a way to get Howell from Seattle.  I think he would do really well in Canales offense.  I also think Howell would do great with this offensive line. Thoughts?
    • 30 points a game. People were hoping to get 17-21 with Young at Qb. This week will be a tougher defense sure would be nice to eat off their plate.
