FanDuel: 3 issues Panthers must address to make the playoffs Next year

Pretty much what we already knew.  But some of those #s are pretty eye popping reading it.

1. Keep Cam

2. Fix the Run D-

The Panthers' run defense was atrocious in 2019. Carolina was the league's worst unit against the run, per Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics, and the Panthers surrendered league highs in rushing touchdowns (31) and yards per carry (5.2), ultimately allowing the fourth-most rushing yards per game (143.5).

3. Fix the OL-

While not nearly as ineffective as their run defense, the Panthers' offensive line wasn't exactly great in 2019. Carolina had the third-lowest pass blocking win rate in the NFL (50.0 percent), and the Panthers were tied for the league's sixth-highest sack rate (8.4 percent). The constant pressure caused a lot of problems for Allen, who fumbled the ball 13 times (T. No-4 in the NFL).

Im on board with 2 and 3, on the fence with Cam. Prior injury history, crap diet and a hefty price tag have me extremely skeptical.

I feel this way myself but honestly do you think there’s a better option anywhere for us for next season. Because a player playing for a contract usually drops his nuts (has a good year) lol especially someone like Cam. Especially after having a substantial amount of time off. I’d expect the 6-2 Cam but more deep passes. And the price tag isn’t hefty at all that’s a key point he’s making middle of the pack money this upcoming season for a starter so it’s not to pricey to play it out. Not for another thread but I don’t think there’s a real winning option beside Cam so let’s embrace the come back player of the year.

Poe and Paradis have extremely screwed us, we should honestly pay Miami a 6th round pick to take Poe and 7th round pick to take Paradis a la Brock Oswiler

Poe's contract can easily be gotten out from under. $9.8M of his $13.1M cap hit next year can be recovered by releasing him.

6-2 Cam with more deep passes is MVP type poo so I’m cool with that.

Yeah, I know everywhere Rhule has gone has been a rebuild, but an NFL job isn't Temple or Baylor. No one ever expects anything out of Temple ever. No one expected anything out of Baylor at first with them basically coming off of an NCAA death sentence.

Quick turnarounds aren't unusual in the NFL. Not saying anyone on a national level will be expecting the Panthers to go to the SB next year or even make the playoffs, but this isn't Temple or Baylor. You can't go 1-15 or 2-14 and expect for there not to be a ton of speculation that Rhule is a massive flop.

Cam is absolutely our best shot of competing next year. A healthy Cam and some smart moves to address the trenches and there's no reason this team can't be a playoff team.

Might be losing the Olsen salary too, but I think he will heal his wounds and return.

I think you bring back Cam and find a backup to groom for the job.  A backup qb in the NFL should be a future starter or a former starter---in my opinion.  In this case, the future starter is needed.  I am not (at this time, until I know more) interested in giving Cam a third contract at 32.  If he stays healthy AND has a good year, that changes.

I think we could grab that QB in round 2.  Do not be surprised to see us draft Fromm.

Keeping Cam allows us to take a non-QB in round 1.

Free agency is going to be huge---we can turn this around in 1 year.  I see it.
