Matt Rhule could be our Jimmy Johnson moment.

I know it was decades ago and people might not even remember, but Jimmy Johnson becomes HC for the Dallas cowboys in 1989, he had literally zero experience in the NFL because up until that point he was only a college coach. Heck, unlike Rhule he didn’t even have any small time assistant level NFL experience. Anyway,  in 1989 the Cowboys in Jimmy’s first year as HC go a dismal 1-15, then in 1990 improve to 7-9, then in 1991 11-5, then in 1992 go 13-3 and win the SB and thus the 90s Cowboys dynasty begins.

Pattern sound familiar? The two teams Rhule has been a head coach of have been very similar pattern. Year 1- terrible, year 2- average then year 3 it’s party time. Let’s hope this is our Jimmy Johnson moment.

So are we getting the Herschel Walker trade, then spending two 1st overall picks on QBs in the same year? LOL

- For those not aware, the Cowboys used the 1st overall pick on Troy Aikman in the 1989 draft and then a few months later used a 1st round pick in the 1989 supplemental draft to take Steve Walsh.  That pick ended up being the #1 overall pick in the 1990 draft.

It's completely clear right now Rhule has no idea what or who the Panthers are. Just that he likes the ownership and GM. Calling him JJ or any great at the moment is rushing the "process" and we need to see who he surrounds himself with because that's going to be super important.

Gruden actually attempting to pull off a version of the Jimmy Johnson model.  Others have attempted before and it didn't work out so well.

I mean to follow the Jimmy Johnson path....that is going to involve some real pain.

    • Well unfortunately nothing to us. But he has been giving to the rest of the league. He's been so bad he was getting opposing defenders all kinds of accolades and salary increases. Now though he's taking back. You can't lose to a Bryce Young led offense and not expect swift ramifications ya know?
    • Full disclosure I responded to this before fully reading the whole post. As if I had, I’d have laughed at you saying you haven’t seen a full route tree from him, as that’s EXACTLY what he has in his bag.  That right there just shows you haven’t watched him at all outside of the downfield highlight reel plays.  He already runs a full NFL level route tree, at all 3 levels.  As I’ve said numerous times before, XL is the big bodied possession guy, while T-Mac would be the true outside #1 who can do it all and a perfect compliment to XL.   Want to draft someone else all you want, that’s totally fair.  But don’t try and say he’s just a big bodied WR who lacks quickness and can’t run a full route tree, as it’s just the furthest thing from the truth.
    • My perfect offseason at QB would be trade Bryce, sign Lock (experience with Canales) and draft Ewers in the second or late in the first
