Matt Rhule is not into analytics, and his offensive philosophy is archaic and inefficient

You morons are hunting for something that is not actually what Tepper said. Tepper said he wants OLD SCHOOL FOOTBALL DISCIPLINE. Those of you wondering why we hired Rhule, who doesn't appear to be the next Wiz Kid coach because Tepper has been preaching "Analytics" need to work on your comprehension skills.

Tepper has given interviews in which he stressed how important analytics are (and also how much time he's spent reading about the topic).

It also makes you wonder why we fired Rivera (given that was their main point of friction).

Being a good leader of men and building a culture are of supreme importance in the NFL (it's probably the most important thing).  But in large part, the very best coaches both embrace analytics and are also great leaders (John Harbaugh).  The hope was that Tepper would find such an individual.

My initial take:   If we were just going to go with a guy who excels at motivating young men, we should have kept Ron Rivera.

But I'll defer judgment for a year or so, solely because David Tepper is an extraordinarily thoughtful and intelligent man, and he might be privy to some information we don't have.

Tepper wants to be like the Steelers mixed with the Patriots. Old school style coach but not afraid to keep up with modern trends and such. Hence Rhule being hired, and hence Rivera being given a chance to stay and adapt.

Tepper will be patient with Rhule because he wants the long term stability like the Steelers and Patriots.

I'd agree.

Not so sure the fans will be.

Nope. This fanbase (and most every fanbase) expects to win now. Given the fact we've experienced a taste of success in the last 5 years, they have legitimate reason to expect that.

This hire is a full on rebuild that is going to result in riots by this fanbase next season when we are a 1 win team halfway through the season.

Imagine if the league schedules us against the Redskins opening day...

(that wouldn't exactly be shocking)

Yes and some wont agree with everything he's done, like keeping Hurney on board. Hearing Rhule speak, its obvious that Hurney had a role in the coach search. How much or how big a role, no clue. Will be interesting to see who the assistant gm will be. That I think will clue us in completely on Hurney's actual status with the Panthers.

    • You go after my guy with nonsense like "I don't see quickness or explosiveness" and "I haven't seen a lot of quickness or full route tree ability that we always ignore" Then yea, I'm gonna punch back. Like I've said, if people want to draft someone else, that's totally fine, everyone has their own opinions.  But if you're going to advocate against a specific player, don't talk complete nonsense about their game like this. Even more so, don't do that when you're saying I'm the one with a bias towards him. If I was afraid of it looking like a bias pick on my part, I'd never have said I was an Arizona alumni when arguing for him, but I've admitted it from the very beginning, because I don't think my Arizona connection gives me a bias, it just means I know his game REALLY well as I've seen every snap of his college career.  So yea, you start saying the knocks on him are things that he's actually really good at, then you're going to get an earful from me with some video evidence to back it up. In the end, for me, it all falls back to how rare a player like T-Mac can be due to his size.  The smaller speedier type of WRs are exactly who you can find in later rounds and who become available as Free Agents, I can't ever get on board with taking a Hunter (as a WR) or Burden over T-Mac if all were on the board, for that reason alone, and I'd say that if he was a freaking Sun Devil, no matter how much it would hurt me to admit if it if that were the case.
