Matt Rhule on Toughness - Prepare to be aroused

Hello ladies and gents

I’ve been a lurker on this board for over a decade now. Was here for the jimmy pickles days, laughed with many of you about the golden calf of Bristol, had my heart broken during the super bowl, but never really felt compelled to post anything. Until today. What brings me to post today you may ask?

The fact that never in all my life on message boards have I seen as big of a whiny baby back bitc* as Harbinger. This dude has cried in every thread nonstop about any coaching candidate the panthers even began to consider. I’m starting to wonder if he’s actually Ron Rivera’s long lost cousin. Don Rivera, is that you??

I mean seriously you’ve talked out of both sides of your ass this entire coaching search. “Wah this coach doesn’t have enough experience.” “Wah this coach is a retread.” “Rhule won at Baylor, but he didn’t win by ENOUGHHHHH wahhhh”. “Oh he had way less talent than other teams but but but but he still lost a 28-3 lead to a vastly superior Oklahoma team.” “He got blown out by all 4 and 5 stars from Georgia while running out a team of nobodies.”

Have you ever in all your life been positive about a single thing? Hell maybe Rhule won’t work out, maybe he will. But take your whiny ass on somewhere else while the grownup panther fans discuss this hire and Rhules merits like adults.

There’s a good chance I’ll never post here again but good goddam you’re driving me nuts dude. Get on the train or jump the hell off.

grow some balls and post on your main account, troll

Don’t have one. I’ve never created an account or actually posted here in my life. Just like I said, I’ve been around reading threads for a long time. Believe it or not there are people who come here with no account and don’t ever post. Mods can IP search me, I have nothing to hide. Just tired of the same old poo from the same poster that can’t find a single thing to get behind with the Rhule hire.

Some of y'all really are impossible to please. You've become so accustomed to bitching about the team that it's all you can do. You cant be excited, can't be happy and won't ever be pleased. For sure, some of that is earned with years of inconsistency but my God.

This guy gets it as a coach. Football players are generally one of two types of people. Either they want a leader to look to or they view themselves as more important than anybody else. We call them divas typically. Even guys who are naturally good leaders (Cam, Luke, TD) want to have somebody that they can look to as their leader so that they can be better leaders to the rest of the team. It's why a lot of guys were bummed Rivera left. Ignoring his faults, the guys valued his leadership and trusted him.

Most of the team will absolutely love this guy. the divas won't but they're toxic anyway. Get with the program or leave. If you have ever played the game at any level, this will make total sense. If you did and still think I'm full of it, maybe you were a diva yourself.

I may disagree with Harbinger most of the time but crazy timing on your part... hence my skepticism as to your legitimacy.

At this point there's no point in getting down on Rhule.  He did a lot with... not very much at Baylor and Temple.  Way too much unknown, let's hope for the best.

Well congrats on not being the guy to annoy the fug out of me enough to make me create an account after 10+ years of just coming here to read threads. I’ll give you my first ever pie. Hell I even made it through the BigCat days (when the board wasn’t sure if he was more of a panthers or pats fan) without making an account. I’m just sick of every thread I click on about Rhule reading freakin Harbinger find a new stupid ass thing to complain about.

PS: you can shove your skepticism. Don’t care. Have a great day internet stranger : )

the biggest thing that makes me really happy with this hire is that 10 out of 11 starters on defense were the same from his 1-11 first season to his 11-1 last season. they didn't recruit and sign a bunch of better players, he made the players better via coaching. it'll be interesting to see what he can do with guys like Donte Jackson and Tre Boston who are very physically gifted but wet the bed a lot

This is a great point, did not know this.

    • You absolutely can have hope. You can’t convert people though; making advocacy posts are kind of … not reading the room.   I had a small hope that he would be able to at least manage some games and that they could make it work in some kind of no fun to watch fashion.  But honestly I had 100% determined he was not NFL starter material, and I had conviction. So to root for him to marginally succeed goes against the best interest of the Panthers long term, according to my beliefs. I wanted him gone the minute he got here if I am honest. It was up to him to prove otherwise.  He has rarely shown me anything to think I was wrong on his ceiling.  He did show me some courage last year, standing in the pocket and stepping into his throw in the face of pressure - but that has gone somewhere. He made some nice throws last year in places too, but they invested in him on the level of the Atlanta game should be his norm. Good luck seeing that again on Sunday. Still, he did it once, so technically it could happen again.
    • Damn that was a longer post than I intended, Maybe I should have started a new thread.
    • On that TD, he sure didn't get any help from Scott at FS! While we're pointing out Blue Chips...Horn has proven to be a lock-down, (dare I say)elite CB and DB is one of the best at DT. Which brings me to a topic that has unfortunately been much on my mind lately...2026. Our important (IMO) FAs are: Rico Dowdle - As you pointed out, Etienne is developing nicely and Brooks is still untested potential, so not a big loss. Cade Mays and Brady Christensen - I think we can keep both without breaking the bank. BC tested the market this year and it was all but non-existent. He's a solid backup, but backup linemen don't get paid. Mayes is our only starter on the line who's a FA and he's technically not a starter. Corbett is a FA, but good riddance as far as I'm concerned. He stays hurt and can't snap the damn ball when he is healthy. Hunter Renfrow signed a 1 -year prove it deal, and will resign a team friendly deal again I think. He has repeatedly said that he only wants to play here and is Coker's backup anyway. DJ Wonnum - Solid mid-tier guy that I would like back, but is easily replaceable. I will not cry if he walks. Every other FA is bottom of the barrel roster fillers. As it stands now, we need (in order); QB, ILB, OL/DL depth, secondary depth. If we resign Mays, OL is in tact again and still pretty darned good. Horne, Jackson, and Smith-Wade are solid starters as are T-mac and Coker. We have some promising young WRs in Tremayne and Horn. I see us trying to get a FA Chain mover and/or resign Renfrow. RB room looks really good. TE is a conundrum, Tremble will never be a great pass catcher and Sanders will never be a great blocker. Evans is starting to show signs of life, but not enough to tell yet. This could be another spot we try to upgrade via free agency, having a proven TE could really help our rookie QB.
