NFL Scout on Rhule: "He's a Stud"

Meh.

My hunch is Tepper would have thrown that kind of money and contract length at whoever he hired regardless, owing to his fortune and desire for long term stability.

My completely unqualified opinion is money yes, years no.

Rhule is a developer.  Regardless of his college turn around times, he knows he will need more than the 2-3 years coaches are given nowadays to get a program adequately where he wants it.  Getting him to leave a place of safety (Baylor) for the NFL would take more than a 2-3 commitment.  That being said, I am sure Tepper was (obviously) fine with it.  And was (obviously) sold on Rhule's interview.  I just have this feeling the contract length was more of a Rhule thing that Tepper agreed to, rather than a Tepper offer.

TBE put forward the notion that the 7 years was Tepper’s attempt to play nice with other owners, essentially dividing the same amount of money into more years so as not to drive the price of coaches up. Obviously no way to know for sure, but this sounds plausible and reasonable.

I honestly have no clue. The college to NFL track record is all over the place. Temple and Baylor turn around a were impressive but I really worry about the lack of NFL experience, especially if his coordinators are green. We’ve heard some really good sound bites so I’m hopeful and to be honest, I did want to swing for the fences. That’s why I was OK with McDaniels who could flame out or hit big. I think this is the same thing. It’s not likely to be Ron and John, it’ll be awful (Lawrence!) or amazing (huge turn around). I don’t think we have enough D talent to do the quick turnaround but a few years and drafts, possibly.

He’s probably the guy I thought the least about because it didn’t seem like we were in the running and you’ve got nothing NFL wise to review. Also, I am not a fan of Hurney. I don’t care who he drafted 15 years ago, his FA signings and draft classes over the past 10 years is crap. He got lucky that the guys we loved fell into our laps (Moore and Burns), but like 2008-2012, the rest of his drafts have been bad and predictable. That’s why we usually pick in the top half and he drafts good first rounders. It's way easier when you are only looking at the top 10 guys. Everyone knows who we listed after (Little and Grier), so it doesn’t surprise me that news leaks out and we move up or take guys too early. Rhule doesn’t bring with him a better option.

With the length of the deal, I do think Tepper is giving him a long leash, which is good. If we part ways with Cam, we have a legitimate bad team. Kyle Allen and the 31st ranked D isn’t good with all the FAs. Maybe they agree on a tank for Lawrence or Fields option, which I wouldn’t be opposed to with how bad our D and how many players we do need. We could get quite a few comp picks for 2021 as well. It would be rough as a fan but it could be in the long term interest. I just don’t think Cam in his current state is going to be injury free for years.

Dang I have no clue either. Im too seasoned to fall for him after reading ALL the good fluff that comes out after the hire. Plus Im immune to his rah-rah sermon stuff too. Honestly think we got him a little too soon. Fixing temple and Baylor was impressive form low-level college standpoint, plus given each was done within 3 years thats super too. Like to seen that a couple more times- once at big-time program and then a year or two at-least re-learning as a DC/OC in the pros. One year in 2012 as a assistant to a assistant, lots of change has taken place. Still hes hot and thats what a few NFL team thought, still trying to understand the "why" on that one too.

A few things to make me a believer- his staff and draft influence. Plus I feel like the practices will be much more intense and calorie burning. Never would I thought the Panthers have both of the softness lines in football. Herniay is another topic, already said my piece on him..... was wrong about his 2019 FA class. I have a firm belief in not judging a draft til AFTER the second off-season training program. Said he gotten better and still wanted him gone. Herniay is a GREAT salesman and that seems to what Tepper wants on his football team, cause Rhule is the same salesman.

Lastly I dont know how to state this without it coming off as rude or toxic. Currently not a big believer in Rhules IQ. All HCs work hard, the perfect combo is being intelligent too. Not saying hes a dumb-dumb who lucked to some wins either. Too early to know that truly, have to see how how this plays out. Game-planning, adjustments, schemes and how he uses his time will show their true colors. I already dont like his family staying at Waco, see if that remains in the coming months with schools and all.

The man sn't gonna pull his kids out of school mid-year to move halfway across the country. Good grief. His family will relocate over the summer.

Milltary moves families during the school year. Not saying "THEY NEED TO MOVE RIGHT MEOW!!1!!". Just want my new coach to be super comfy with his family at his new diggs. Draft and thousand other things are happening, coach needs his mind and family.

Military families don't make millions of dollars. They do what they do out of necessity, not because it's what's necessarily the best.

Point is proven. Not out of question or can not be done, cause it happens all the time. Schools work with them too. Family seems important to the guy, they seem to support him. Be great for all after a long day he can drive home to lake norman and see his family. Then get re-focused for the next day during this super important time. Moving is part of the deal in being a HC, they know that Im sure.

I always wondered how NFL coaches get up and move so quickly to new jobs. Ron for example got the redskins job less than 2 weeks after being fired.

How in the hell can you sell a house or atleast move all you crap that fast.

With his money he has people do that for him

When you make millions you don't necessarily have the same concerns and difficulties as the normal person would.
