Wade Phillips released by the Rams

DFive

Wade Phillips is a good DC, but one caveat here:  he has always been seen as a "great" coordinator when his defenses had great personnel.  Do we have that in Carolina?

I mean one of the reasons the Rams struggled this year was because their d-line wasn't as dominant and the secondary wasn't quite as good.

Do you think he could put a viable D out there for us?  I do know he will make in game adjustments which is more than I can say for old Riverboat.

Firing a coordinator as scapegoat is a tried and true play out of the HC who just had a bad season. Phillips is still a good coordinator. I say grab him.

I think there is something to this statement.

Well one would tend to assume that as a coordinator he had a hand in building those defenses into what they became.

Gregg Easterbrook of Tuesday Morning Quarterback used to point out HC’s making this move year after year after year. I went from being oblivious to it to understanding why coordinators whose units didn’t perform all that poorly or who had little talent to work with still get fired. Easterbrook is great for peeling back the curtain and showing the why of a lot of things that may not make sense to fans because owners, coaches and GM’s would rather fans not be wise to their shenanigans.
