Happy Panther

If he is there at 7 you almost have to take him. I don’t think he falls that far though.

We have to at least do our homework in case he's there.

His draft stays hinges almost entirely on his medical evaluations so if you're stuck in the clock and he's there and you haven't done your homework you almost have to let him keep falling.

If I’m the Panthers, I move up and draft, then let him sit behind Newton until he’s fully healthy. Then nailed-on starter from ‘21 onwards.

In a weird way, it’s probably in Panthers best interest if he’s still kind of hurt but not too badly.

You could argue that his contract in 2020 will be about $5m (guessing) and Cam's would be $21m.  That is $26m at QB--not a bad number.

In 2021, however, to keep Cam is going to cost about $35m if healthy at 32.  That would give us a QB controversy and $40m of cap hit.

We would not keep Cam if Tua checks out.  We would have a QB at $5m for the next three years and we could use the Cam salary we would have paid on free agents--$35m is a lot in free agency.

So if you look at the finances, taking a QB now is smart.  If you look at needs ONLY, then it seems slightly stupid.  Everyone seems to think the draft is to fill 2020 needs when only half of first rounders start--40% of second rounders, and 25% of third rounders (approximations based on a post /article I shared some time ago.  So why draft for NOW?

Just spitballing here.  Again, my comments do not represent the Huddle, NFL, or the Boy Scouts of America.

The bottom line is ..

If you're a QB entering the NFL draft - odds are you will suck in the NFL ..

Look at Wentz, Goff, Trubisky, Allen, Bortles, Mariota, Winston, Darnold, Mayfield, Rosen ..

Trash ..

Odds are not good

I think it is a chicken or egg thing--If you get drafted in the early first round, you are going to a bad team-I wish I could figure out the formula for success.  I think about Rodgers getting mad during the draft when he fell to about #24 and GB grabbed him. He should have been elated.

And here we go with the endless debates.

this guy isn’t a Cam Newton or Patrick Mahomes, he’s already been hurt plenty.

he should be a 3rd round pick, then I’ll be ok with it. Sit behind Cam, see if his rehab really works out.

If you're actually good though it doesn't matter ..

In 2010 our offense was 32nd I believe .. In 2011 it was 6th .. thanks Cam

I only use "nimrod" and IQ jokes .. not that bad .. nothing personal

How could it be personal?   You are using a fake name on the internet.  I am sure you are much different in person, when the person who opposes your opinion is sitting in front of you.  That is personal.

It matters.  You run into problems when you use one example to prove a universal point.

Cam has had how many winning seasons?  In 2010 we had Clausen at QB and David Gettis / R Brandon Lafell.

How many losing seasons would Cam have had if playing for the Patriots?  Steelers?  Seahawks?  Saints?

More than 3.  In fact, his health might not be an issue now.  Cam is a tremendous athlete, so you found an exception, but your comment was not about Cam--I had no idea you would start nut hugging here.  I am out.

If we did draft Tua, we better get a hell of a RT. <- I’m not even sure if Moton is good enough.

I know-it is hard to know how bad the Tackles were when the Center was so bad this year.  It starts there.

Playing for the teams you've listed - Cam certainly has a better career W-L record

I get your point

no only cause he is injured. u will be in a worse position with another " can he stay healthy" situation. at least cam is proven.

The injury stuff has to bother you---but it bothers me with Cam too.  I am worried that the 2015 Cam everyone fell in love with is gone.  He has taken a beating for a decade.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
