Trading up for Burrow what would it cost?

What would it cost?

Hill: No. 7, 38, 69, 2021 first and 2022 first for No. 1.

Traditional: No. 7, 2021 first and second for No. 1

Meers: No. 7 and 38 for No.1

What's the likelihood it happens?

A lot will depend on who the Panthers hire to replace Ron Rivera. If it's, say, Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman, he might want to stick with Newton given the success he has had with Lamar Jackson, and before that, Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. If it's someone else and they want to start fresh with "their" quarterback, moving up for Burrow is a more realistic possibility, assuming Tua doesn't declare and that they don't consider Herbert a top-10 pick. We would put the chances at 35 percent.

In our latest mock draft, we had the Panthers taking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

I am not*in favor of taking a qb. This is just a hypothetical.

We can fix the O/Line with a good LG or LT and Center selection in this years draft.  We weren't even holding teams out of the backfield for a 3 second count and you were expecting us to pass.  There was no stepping up into the pocket cause it was collapsing when they did or a rusher was plowing through to the QB.  Give our QB's time to throw and we could have won more games this year even as poorly as the defense played.

Anything other than a concentrated effort to fix the oline through draft and FA and even coaching hire will make whoever takes snaps under center next year irrelevant. If it is Cam, he will have a slim chance indeed of making it through the season without further injury with our line as presently constructed. If it is a rookie, the risk of wasting said rookie's potential and leaving them shell shocked a la David Carr is high. If this season made anything abundantly clear, it is that our oline must be addressed first or who is under center won't matter much.

This board reminds me of the pre-Cam draft cycle

"ugh we have too many holes we can't go worrying about getting a franchise QB, go get Fairley!!!"

it's remarkable how this stupid notion won't just go away despite the overwhelming makeup of the league.

If you have a chance to get a franchise QB, you get one. Lol at obsessing over whose going to anchor your LG spot.

When Ditka was coaching the Saints, he gave his entire draft for a RB (Williams) and a first and a third the next year to move from #12 to #5.

Cincy ain't giving up on Burrow unless the whole farm is on the table.

Traded to New Orleans

Traded to Washington[13]

  • 1999 first round pick (12th overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select Cade McNown)[14]
  • 1999 third round pick (71st overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select D'Wayne Bates)[14]
  • 1999 fourth round pick (107th overall, used to select Nate Stimson)[15]
  • 1999 fifth round pick (144th overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select Khari Samuel)[16]
  • 1999 sixth round pick (179th overall, later traded to Denver, used to select Desmond Clark)[15]
  • 1999 seventh round pick (218th overall, later traded to Denver, used to select Billy Miller)[15]
  • 2000 first round pick (2nd overall, used to select LaVar Arrington)[13]
  • 2000 third round pick (64th overall, used to select Lloyd Harrison)[13]

Yeah, but I don't think they had a first rounder, IIRC...and it was actually the Saints.  To compensate, they had to give up the remainder of what they had in the draft.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
