The NFL just broke the rules because of a bonehead. Bills totally should have challenged that. Waving off has no baring on the refs. They even through a flag on the player that came back on the field and it wasn’t even mentioned. The rule is you have to down the ball. Throwing it out there is a live ball.

fug the Vegas spread.

Yeah that was ridiculous, the NFL screwed up big time there. The announcers talking about “common sense play” are retarded too. Yes it’s common sense to think that he should give himself up there. But he didn’t give himself up by the rules. He was too lazy to just take a knee like what happens thousands of times during the year. The rule I believe is that if he doesn’t touch it at all and it hits the endzone it’s immediately a touchback. Otherwise he must either call a fair catch, or kneel it down, or even run it out the back of the endzone. But since he caught it, never gave himself up (and no, by the rules, walking slowly, looking at the ref and throwing he ball to him is not giving yourself up) and just tossed the ball back for the Bills to recover, that is 100% a TD.

The Texans offense doesn't even seem to be trying, though.  Very weird.

John McClain is a longtime Texans reporter and generally pretty even keeled. He's blowing his stack over this game on Twitter right now.

For the record, McClain also saved a bunch of hostages from terrorists in the Nakatome Building in L.A. several years ago.

He clearly did. And tons of returners do that. I want the bills to win but that was total bullshit

I’ve never in my life seen that before. I’ve seen guys take a knee, or let the ball just hit the ground in the endzone which is automatically a touchback, but I have not seen a returner catch it, then, without taking a knee, toss the ball towards the ref. I’m pretty sure the rules are clear on this one and the NFL just bailed out a lazy/stupid Texans player.

lol that official looked him in the eye, nodded in acknowledgement that he wasn't coming out, then dodged the ball like it was a hand grenade when he tried to toss it to him. good reversal for sure.

I've seen plenty or returners not complete an action of taking a knee for sure.  Some kind of make a slight movement down etc to give themselves up.

That’s not in the rule book. That was a live ball. That returner was too lazy just to kneel. If I was the Texans I would have pulled him right there.
