Of the 4 candidates, I think only Eric Bieniemy will manage to command the respect Rivera had in the locker room

Here are a couple of quotes about Bieniemy from a profile in The Athletic (link)

Every week during the season, Reid and Bieniemy review the offensive game plan they put together. Their laminated sheets contained more than 200 plays. Reid said Bieniemy memorizes every play, every formation.

“He goes, ‘No problem, got it,’” Reid said of Bieniemy, who he calls his right-hand man. “He’s a brilliant dude.”

Known for being an orator, Bieniemy is a vocal coach who can be an inspirational motivator and a demanding challenger of his players, often occurring in the same speech. The Chiefs’ adore Bieniemy for his creativity, his knowledge and his toughness.

I’m sold.

Bien has too problematic of a past with women to be hired in the MeToo era, especially with a politically progressive owner like Tepper

that is the stupidest attempt at a takedown i've ever read.  nothing in there is reason to not hire the enemy.  and his past with women?   you mean people who weren't him?    that was idiotic to post

Admittedly we are all operating with incomplete and very limited information. However, for me, the information we do have would lead me to a hard no for hiring Bieniemy for two primary reasons:

I believe he has no head coaching experience; and

He does not even call plays as an offensive coordinator in Kansas City. BTW, he has only held that position since 2018.

As it relates to respect: I suspect that in the NFL lasting respect is earned and maintained by belief, which is reinforced by progress and ultimately winning. I have no doubt that a certain amount of respect comes with having been a former player. However, I also firmly believe this respect is precarious at best. Mike Singletary comes to mind.

Yeah, that was an atrocious article. That's just someone throwing poo at a wall and hoping it will stick.

I really feel bad for any young person today growing up. There is no room to even be a young, dumb fug up like a lot of kids are. Everything is held against you forever either legally or in the court of public opinion. Over stupid, young people poo too.

I just read the linked article and while it's possible there could be issues beneath that, absolutely nothing about the article gave me serious reservations. I think it's extremely unfair to label a guy as having a bad past with women just because a college program that he was a part of had some players face rape allegations. Rape allegations are no joke, but was anyone actually convicted? Is there anything suggesting this was a systemic problem where such things were continually swept under the rug? Most importantly, is there anything to suggest Bienemy was in a position of authority where what to do about these things was his call? Not the HC, not the AD, but his call? If not then at worst he is guilty of going along to get along, which is something about 95% of h sapiens do.

But let's circle back to the other stuff. Dude got a bunch of minor traffic violations? Yeah that clearly screams horrible human being. Some perfectly reasonable sounding misunderstanding with the fire department where you don't want them to knock down your mother's wall unnecessarily because they misunderstood where the fire started? The more I look at this article the more it looks like a hit job attempting to find a bunch of tiny nonsense and fan it into the flames of something. I mean, seriously, you're going to expect a minority athlete at a bar to not react when hit with a racial slur? That's a ludicriously high bar to set in terms of personal conduct. No one asked Eric Bienemy to be Jackie Robinson.

I agree, but to some degree they are all busily engaged by stupidly posting all their young dumb stuff to the internet for the entire world to see and look up for eternity. That seems smart. I'm sure it will end well for them.

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
