Of the 4 candidates, I think only Eric Bieniemy will manage to command the respect Rivera had in the locker room

Bieniemy and Shaw are my top 2. I have McCarthy over McDaniels. I really think McDaniels will be an awful hire. Hope I’m wrong because it seems like he’s our top target.

I don't mind McCarthy but I think as an offense McDaniels would be great especially if we keep Cam. Hopefully we could bring in a good defensive coordinator maybe Phillips?

.Bienemy is intriguing but I won’t pretend I know the capacity at which he’s been involved in shaping what we see in Kc today.

...

I don't understand.

You're on the Huddle. Clearly you must have unfettered access to the inner workings of all 32 NFL franchises.

I mean, doesn't everyone here?

My worry wouldn’t even be the offense. My worry is that players won’t play for him. He is a massive tool, and that’s an understatement. Players hate him, not because he’s an asshole. Assholes can still build winners and be inspiring.  It’s because he doesn’t command respect. That is a huge issue.

i hope I’m wrong and he’s grown and matured because my gut tells me we’re about to hire him.

So does he call offensive plays at all or has that been Andy Reid?

Out of the candidates mentioned for interviews he is the most intriguing option. I share others concerns about McDaniels, moreso than Mike McCarthy because at least he actually won as a head coach and had years of success.

To me the thing that is a big positive about Bienemy is whether he's calling plays or not, his boss is loudly declaring that he's ready to be an NFL head coach and somebody should hire him. Reid has a long positive track record and as near as I can tell, no real self interest in promoting Bienemy to others, so this looks like a pretty strong genuine endorsement from me. To me it is Reid saying "Yeah I know everyone knows he didn't call plays here, but I'm his boss and trust me I think he's ready."

No he doesn't specifically call the plays but Andy Reid says he has a big hand in it.

Quote

”It seems like play-calling is always the issue,” said Reid. “[Bieniemy] called during the preseason. He helps me with all of the set-ups. The only reason I do it is because I enjoy doing it. I don’t enjoy this (talking to the media), but I enjoy that. It’s one of those things. If that’s the issue, that shouldn’t be an issue.

“Most of all, you’re going to get a leader of men. That’s what he does. He knows football like the back of his hand. He is passionate about it and a great person. I’m a big fan of his. Don’t really want to lose him, but I have a feeling that’s going to happen. Somebody is getting a championship-caliber coach there.”

I am talking about Rivera.  The whole narrative that he commanded respect is overblown.  Players liked him - but I question how  much authority he really held.  There was no fear of failure or accountability with Rivera.

The second he left, Donte Jackson started mouthing off about the coaches and Vernon Butler started flipping off people.

Yep I mean at first I felt the same but I know people change as they get older. I really think we are too.

Here are a couple of quotes about Bieniemy from a profile in The Athletic (link)

Every week during the season, Reid and Bieniemy review the offensive game plan they put together. Their laminated sheets contained more than 200 plays. Reid said Bieniemy memorizes every play, every formation.

“He goes, ‘No problem, got it,’” Reid said of Bieniemy, who he calls his right-hand man. “He’s a brilliant dude.”

Known for being an orator, Bieniemy is a vocal coach who can be an inspirational motivator and a demanding challenger of his players, often occurring in the same speech. The Chiefs’ adore Bieniemy for his creativity, his knowledge and his toughness.

Is it true he doesn’t call the plays in Kansas City? If so, I guess my question is what’s the hype based off of?

Why is play calling such an important trait for a head coach? That's what you hire coordinators for.

He's a leader of men, prepares game plans and is a good motivator. He gets the best out of players and holds them accountable.

Just read McDaniels has his staff lined up ready to depart. Wants to go to Carolina or Cleveland. Depending on which one will give him what he wants. I think its crazy how we talked about wanting him last year and staying with Rivera. I think he is going to be the new coach when it's said and done.

I read some chief fans saying something to the effect of “you can tell when Eric is the one calling plays and when Andy is” it was a positive for Eric. I don’t know how they know that but they are diehard fans. Could be bullshit like some of the bullshit posted on here but it seemed very much like a collaborative effort.
