Of the 4 candidates, I think only Eric Bieniemy will manage to command the respect Rivera had in the locker room

That's not to say Bieniemy is the only guy that can succeed here, but he'll have a leg up on the others.

Whoever follows Rivera will be following a guy that played on the '85 Bears, was here 9 seasons, made a Super Bowl, and was extremely respected in the locker room.

I don't see guys like Luke Kuechly coming in and immediately respecting a college coach (Rhule), a former coaching flameout that abandoned his new team after he managed to get a new job anyway (McDaniels), and a guy whose big knock was literally that he wasn't respected by guys in the locker room (McCarthy). Bieniemy is the only former NFL player of the 4 and has had huge success everywhere he's gone. This shouldn't be a hard decision if these end up being the 4 options.

Oh yeah - the respect to get doors blown off on defense time and time again

???

Are you thinking of someone else? Because he's only been an offensive coordinator, never a head coach or d-coordinator, so you can't really fault KC's defense on him can you? It would be like blaming Norv Turner for Donte Jackson.

I just think they have their choices already and are just kicking the tires since really no one else to interview since they are still playing. I think its between McCarthy and McDaniels.

You know he's interviewing with us this very morning right?

You might be right about being respected by the current players, but I don’t think 90% of the players from the 2019 team will be here in two years so who cares

I agree I don’t think respect of the current roster matters much. With respect to core guys like Luke and Cam, who are both experienced professionals, if whatever new coach we get runs a tight, focused well organized ship, those guys will recognize and respect that. Being a former player isn’t the sole path to respect.
