Greg Cosell on FNZ this morning and was asked what he thought the Panthers three most needed upgrades are;

o-line- said the entire line needs to be upgraded

DT- said with Short healthy they would’ve been better but still not enough talent

slot corner/ cornerback- said Panthers played nickel 65% of the time, needs a good slot corner. Also said Jackson is not working out, need a better guy opposite Bradberry or they could need two corners if James leaves.

Can't fix the whole line but the whole line isn't the problem.  Left side an I am willing to give Little another year but if one of the top LT's is available and we signed Bradberry I go with taking one of them and a Center in either the 2nd or 3rd round.  Maybe Turner gave up during the season but the past two years he has not been the monster on the right side before he got paid.   Maybe we should have let Turner go and kept Norwell,

I remember some folks practically celebrating when Short when on IR.  I think he would have made our defense against the run better.

OL: Turner and Moton can hold down the right side. Paradis was awful and there's an opening at LG. LT we have Little and Daley to compete, which doesn't make me feel great, but I'd rather draft a center to free up the cap space Paradis is occupying. LG can be an FA or another draft pick. I'm super high on Creed Humphrey out of Oklahoma and Nick Harris out of Washington. Either one of them can be a huge boost to the interior.

DL: I had been thinking that Poe would be cut, but with him and KK coming back from injury I can see the team wanting to address the run defense a little more. Vernon Butler showed to be an ok pass rushing DT, but there were a lot of occasions where he was blown up out of his gap. Along with his meltdown to end the season, I don't see him coming back. I would LOVE to retain Gerald McCoy and give the 3-4 another look, but he isn't going to sign unless he thinks the team can compete. Kyle Love has been great for us as a rotational guy, but I think the team would be better looking to bring in a DT of the future in round 1. Derrick Brown (Auburn) or Javon Kinlaw (South Carolina) are looking really, really good at #7.

CB: Too early to give up on Jackson. Year 3 will be make it or break it for him. I really liked Cockrell as a depth guy. Gotta retain Bradberry. Reid is amazing. I would have never thought these words would come from me, but I think we should extend Tre Boston. He was an emotional leader for the back end of the defense and played relatively well. He's going to make mistakes, but providing some stability somewhere on this team will go a long way.

Reid and amazing does not go together sorry. He is good for run stop and blitzing but damn pass coverage terrible. Also his tackling had to be the worst on the team. Definitely not worth that contract imo

for better or worse, we are stuck with him for 2020. I think he will be more of the same and will be let go after 2020.

Yeah, his contract isn't that bad to get out of. thankfully. He isn't a debilitating weakness but he gets targeted quite a lot, so it is something that we have to scheme around.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
