I mean you put Herbert at Clemson? Yeah, Clemson would still be extremely good.  Because they are loaded around the QB and Herbert is good.

But Herbert is no Lawrence.  Just doesn't have the same physical tools and isn't as good.

I like Herbert's physical tools, but he's tough to evaluate in that Oregon offense. Everything in the passing game is a single read or at most a half field read. A lot his stats are padded with dink and dunk passes with lots of YAC against subpar competition (he's #62 in the NCAA in average yards per completion). When they're facing tough competition, they're hellbent on running the ball and they do the same in crunch time when games are close.

The way they manage their offense is far from being a shining endorsement for their confidence in Herbert.

You guys are hilarious!

Tepper:  I'm going to hire you as the HC, but look, don't win any games.

New Coach to Luke and CMC:  Guys, go out there and give it 0%.  We got our eyes on a QB  in the 2021 draft.

In my scenario, if you're moving on from Cam you're probably shopping Luke.

Believe it dude.  There's at least 2 or 3 posters here that have come out and said as much.  Bigger Tigers fans than Panthers obviously.  Landing on the Panthers would mean they have a local hero to cheer for instead of the Texans, Bills and as of last draft...the Raiders.  Most Clemson fans don't really have favorite NFL teams, they just follow the teams of ex-Tigers standouts.

Not even a Clemson fan ( I like the Gators and I wanted OSU with Fields to beat Lawrence and Clemson ) but the thought of having that wonderboy as our next QB would be worth having a terrible year next year.

We've been special once.  That was thanks to a special QB.  Cam Newton.   I still think we should bring Cam back next year.  If he can get healthy and we can protect him? He should be our dude.

but if Cam can't get healthy next year? He has to prove he can be healthy next year.  But if he can't? we should move on THEN.  Not now.  And if he if can't get healthy? Fug it, tank like crazy and try to land another special QB.

if you move on from Cam you are legit in a 100% rebuild mode starting in 2020.  So yeah, Luke probably should be shopped as he would just be a wasted asset that really is a win now player w/ a concerning window left.

I know what STbugs is thinking and he could be right, but it's more likely the homer syndrome clouding his thinking.  That thought is the new coach would only have to endure one bad year and his job is safe.  Why? Lawrence immediately gets this team to a winning record.  Problem is, this team will struggle with a rookie QB at least a year, probably two.  By then, said new HC is on thin ice on what is probably a just a 4 or 5 year deal.

Tua had that interview recently (with ESPN?) where he pretty much said I'm going back unless some team makes it known I'll still be taken in the 1st. If he does go back, teams shied away because of the injury.

I think Tua story will end up being a sad one...

With Luke and CMC, and even Moore, we were the worst team in the NFL in the second half. You do realize that, right? Miami and Cincinnati were better. Washington was 3-13 and they went on a 29-0 run on us and beat us at home.

You act like tanking for us would mean that we’d have to do something crazy.

If we move on from Cam, we are one CMC injury away from 0-16. I don’t know why you think tanking means we are going from a playoff team to 1-15. Tanking to me is what @CarolinaNCSU posted, don’t try and improve our 5-11 team. Don’t sign any big FAs, trade Cam and we’re at 4-12 or 3-13 without much effort even if we give 100%. We aren’t a good team right now with Cam on IR.

You do realize that is like taking a job offer for a company filing bankruptcy.  Who in the hell would want that job? If so, no wonder why we can't get any serious candidates.

I'm not necessarily just talking about Lawrence. If you're moving on from Cam, you're in 100% rebuild mode and I'm  not sure Luke will still be in his prime by the time we're in position to legitimately compete.

From the new coach and possible new GM perspective, they generally love drafting rookie QBs high. Generally speaking, unless it's the Browns it buys you a couple of years of relative safety while you develop him. Keep Cam and you're expected to win now. Something to consider.

That is his point though. We would need Cam to be Super Cam again to get a run into the playoffs. We would likely, long term, be better off trading Cam and Luke this offseason, building more of a line on both sides of the ball and grabbing a QB next year super early. We were awful in the second half of the season.

the way they manage it speaks on the topic at hand IMO.  The management of the offense just wouldn't make any sense if Herbert was on par w/ Trevor. Even the most stubborn coaches in the world.....eventually give in to elite QB talent and let them do their thing.

only 32 of these jobs in the world.

plenty of legit coaches would be okay with coming in and being part of a rebuild....pending that was the agreement coming in and it was all on the table.
