Saw a mock we would pick Eason out of Washington in the 2nd round.  Why do we keep picking back ups

My concern with Eason is he's a total statue. We'd better fix that OL and do it fast if Eason is gonna be taking snaps for us anytime soon. Think poor man's Drew Bledsoe.

I rather go with Okudah if he is available with the 7th and OL than a QB in the 2nd round.

Cam is a big swing. Obviously, if I think a really dumb move like Dalton gets us to 7-9 then Cam can get us over .500. That said, this team is not even as good as 2017. Two years in a row we’ve had a bottom tier to worst D in the league. Cam doesn’t fix that. The OL has amazingly gotten worse after speed bump.

If we are moving on from Cam, we are basically tanking. If we decide not to sign any top FAs, we are basically tanking. There’s a difference between not trying and just having the worst team. Without Cam and backfilling then FAs, we are in that discussion.

I do not think we are currently as hopeless defensively as you but there could be a lot of attrition there and my view may change quite a bit. It's definitely an area we need to improve the personnel but I do think we could get a big boost by just having some new coaches involved. The OL I am less hopeful about, so that will absolutely have to improve or it will be a long season, Cam or not.

I agree on moving on from Cam with the current situation, that is tantamount to tanking, whether it is intentional or not. Same with not filling roster needs and adjusting. We can agree on that.

Okudah seems like a little bit of a luxury pick, TBH. A lot will depend on Bradberry's future. The interior of both of our lines is the biggest priority, IMO.

I want Cam back, but I agree with @stbugs. If Cam is gone, I want to tank for Fields or Lawrence. No sense in bringing in a QB like Dalton that will get us 5 or 6 wins. If you go that route, you’re just putting off the inevitable bottoming out, and possibly missing out on special QBs

I don’t want Tua, Herbert, or any of these QBs in this draft except that LSU dude or Newman/Love in the 3rd or 4th. We’re obviously not getting LSU Jeaux.

Burrow is Andy Dalton. Also, Newman put his name in the transfer portal today so he will not be going pro this year.

College success will not drive more marketing demand, NFL success will. Same with NFL demand, the only impact that would have would be his health.

A national champion, Heisman trophy winning QB isn't more marketable or in higher demand than one who isn't those things?

It's one less year of an already short average career that you didn't spend adjusting and adapting to the NFL.

Is it adapting to NFL or adding another year physical/mental growth?

The insurance policies for someone like Tua would be in the low seven figure range(typically) and collecting on those policies can be challenging, much like any large insurance claim.  Banking on an insurance policy is a poor substitute for a guaranteed contract that a first round draft pick receives.

Defer to the research, good point.

should allow you to live comfortably for the rest of your life.

This has been proven false time and time again.  Its not just splurging. These guys are preyed on constantly.

I don't disagree but to beef your defensive back field with a possible down corner you must take the chance to grab him.  I think you seen my remarks on the Oline.  I believe that should be our focus.  I don't think Turner will be leaving us so the right side should be set it is the left side that is the problem child right now.  So to grab one of the top college linemen would be a plus for us, but still if Okudah is there.  It would be tempting but I think he will be gone before the 7th pick.

His injury from what I understand is the same like Bo Jackson’s. Technology and rehab are vastly better than 30 years ago but nevertheless he might be done.

he will try to come back. Remember when Bo did?  Bo knows.

oh,... most wouldnt.

I have heard rumblings that he might but I think this hurts the Panthers because it’s 1 less qb taken before 7.

Thoughts?

People who have inside knowledge are saying the chances are very good he will play another college season...

Those of you assuming that we are drafting a T might be a bit surprised---Hurney will not cover up Little if they still have faith in him.  He will draft Brown, Espenesa (sp?), Jeudy, or Okudah if he does not draft Herbert or Tua. Of course, a new coach in his ear might be effective.
