Ron Rivera Signs 5 Year Deal With Washington

I don't think so.  In fact, I think McCarthy is just Tepper's fall back option.

First of all there have been reports that Tepper wants a younger guy to be here a long time (kind of the model the Steelers use with their HC's).  But McCarthy is already 56, so he's not someone you look at as someone for the long haul.  He's more of a transition coach.

Secondly, I am sure Tepper can see through the Analytics bs that McCarthy is spewing.  He is what he is, and at 56, he's likely never going to use (or probably even understand how to use) analytics in the creative way Tepper wants.  That's more of a younger new age method that fits better with coaches that grew up in a technological world.  McCarthy's just too fundamentally old school.

Thirdly, I think Tepper wants to make a splash.  He doesn't want to be seen as playing it safe with an established coach, he wants to bring in someone with the WOW factor, and McCarthy's not it.

I also think Tepper wants someone who is more innovative than McCarthy.  McCarthy is a fine coach, but he is pretty basic.  As much as he might try, he's never going to be much more than what he's already done.

So, like I said, I think McCarthy is just a fall back option.  The only way I see him as the hire is if none of the candidates impress, or we get turned down by the guys Tepper has his eye on.

Tepper is 62.

Good for Ron.  Good dude.  He deserves to be a HC.  There aren't 32 better.

but there are 32 better

there are hundreds better. they're not all currently employed as head coaches, of course. that's a key point with looking for talent in elite multi-million gigs - maybe, just maybe, the set of entrenched incumbents shouldn't be the horizon for your search? unless you're maybe, just maybe, yet another replacement-level entitled moron?

and even among the currently employed, the existence of even ten coaches who are clearly better than your guy - that's a flashing red sign that you should be looking to improve

"he deserves to be a HC" - holy sh*t, could the loser-team mentality be summed up any better than that?

Rivera picked the best place in the league for his talents.  There is not a franchise in the league that it will be easier for him to accept all the praise when things go well and blame others when it goes bad.

Success- despite meddling owner

Fail- because of meddling owner

Rivera is a freaking genius, boys.

Rivera will be good for the Redskins, but I'm not sure the Redskins will be good for him, other than in the bank account.

The Redskins are a mess, and basically have been since Danny Boy took the keys.  They were even a mess during the Gibbs 2 years, but he was so revered there his presence took the attention away from the mess.  Snyder desperately looks for stability, especially after the Spurrier debacle.  Ron will provide stability.  He may not be able to provide anything more than fleeting moment success in that organization.

Snyder is trying to convince his fanbase he is not an idiot.  Compare that to Jerrah Jones, who does not care that his fanbase thinks he is an idiot, he wants splash.  After all, they are the Jones Cowboys of Dallas, not the Dallas Cowboys.
