If you were invited to interview for the GM job of the Carolina Football Panthers what would your confidence level be?

I’m at home sitting on the couch drinking an IPA.. At least he’s a coach, getting ready for a national championship game. Sounds like he’s full of himself. If anything, he should use it as a learning experience to have an NFL interview under his belt just in case that chance arises again for himself fo the future.

(i)  I hear ya!  Fire up some Panic if interested...

(ii)  Yes, he is a coach.  Eliminating distractions generally helps coaches and players accomplish the goal at hand which, in this case, is winning the national Championship.

(iii)  There is some merit to your point....

....the flipside to your argument is akin to throwing Will Grier into a game in which he not prepared to compete --- it was ugly on Sunday.

Fewell's interview would satisfy the Rooney Rule. No need to pursue Elliot for that reason. That said, if he's happy at Clemson, there's nothing wrong with that.

Unless you don’t want to make it appear you’re just interviewing to satisfy the rule, best way around that is to bring a bunch of minorities in. Then you look like you were taking them seriously.

I go to Clemson as a business major, you will likely never see Dabo or someone that came from Dabo's coaching tree in the NFL. All the coaches are very family oriented, I 100% believe Ron in saying he took criticism for having his family around the team. Dabo FORCES his assistant coaches to go to their kids high school football games on Fridays. The whole team and the coaches families attend church together on Sunday and take Christianity VERY seriously... This could be a major reason why a family oriented man like TE does not want to coach in a league that plays on Sunday up to 20 times in one year plus mandatory practices. I'm just speculating, but that could be why TE could've declined a NFL interview. Plus the fact that he is making around 1.2 million to coach a team that has won 2/3 national championships, even if he makes 5 million in his first year with the Panthers, he could almost be another Steve Wilks who gets fired after one year for not fitting the character. Ultimately, he is happy where he is at and I could see him running to HC a NCAA team, but there is not a Clemson coach (run into all of them all the time) that in my opinion would fit the mold of coaching in the NFL.

I'm supposed to believe the 39year old runnings back coach of Clemson turned down an interview to make tens of millions of dollars as a head coach in the NFL

Yes...to some , money isn't the driving force behind every career decision.

Thanks for sharing that perspective with those of us who are not college football fans.  Good to know.

I forgot to add that most of the coaches have their kids enrolled at CU and they all attend for 0. When you make 1.2 million, you'd think they wouldn't care about that, but after taxes that is like 800k. 100K is a lot when you put it in perspective. That's a big reason Brent Venables hasn't jumped to HC, he doesn't want to uproot his family from high school or college. There are many things the media does not bother to consider. You can find Dabo at church every Sunday in Clemson, but I'm supposed to believe he is going to give that up and take a pay cut to coach the Dallas cowboys? To many I understand that's not important, but I can just tell you by all these coaches attitudes, it is a great means of consideration.

You are projecting..

Sounds like he knows what he does and doesn't want...

For those who don't live in this tiger culture it's hard to understand.

    • I think we’re evaluating them for depth. Pretty much every position on defense can use an upgrade
    • Nobody said he isn’t because BY got benched for a reason. But the discussion has always been if Bryce is “closing the gap” since he returned as a starter. Legitimate conversation don’t you think?
