9 win division winner.  Get the basic facts straight before offering your opinion.  Also, Philadelphia went 9-7 with a banged up roster.  It stands to reason that they'll be better than 9-7 next year.  And I know people love to dogpile on Jerry Jones, but the fact is that Dallas hadn't had a losing season since 2015 (when Romo got hurt), and they field a talented roster.   Washington, on the other hand, has been one of the NFL's worst franchises over the last 20 years.  It's a massive challenge.

oh my not 9 wins!!!!!!

big deal. it's an easy gig and the first one available...make no mistake about it.

Ron definitely should have been fired... but this idea that the slim success he had was only because of Cam comes off as sour grapes imo.

No doubt the success was mostly attributed to Cam, but that's often the case with QBs... but a large portion of the success of the 2013 and 2015 teams was because of Ron's defense. Particular 2013. That was a heck of a defense that year... the best outside of 2003.

But of course that was only 2 years, which is why he was, and should have been fired.

I'm happy Ron got a job and I hope he does well. But I don't think another HC job, and leastwise a Redskins HC job was in his best interest. It's a great job, and a great paycheck right now but I doubt it's setting him up for long-term success.

I agree with what @Cracka McNasty wrote that the best Washington can hope for is a culture shift, and that's something Ron can bring that's arguably more valuable than "W"s in the long run.

But I maintain his best play would have been to be a Defensive Coordinator for a championship contender. Plenty of playoff teams could have their staffs raided, and DC jobs will open up. Baltimore is a great example. I think he should have held out, inserted himself into a winner with the pieces to succeed now, and gone hog wild running a killer defensive unit. Win a couple championships, and take notes on how a great HC operates by working in his shadow. Then re-emerge in 5+ years and find himself one of the hottest and most well-rounded coaching candidates on the market.

Ron Rivera is the modern day Jeff Fisher..they should brace for  7-9 records

Good comparison. Considered by NFL people and media as a "good coach" with nothing to show for it but coach of the year awards and worthless poo like that.

Apparently it wasn't Ron's defense. If it was, then where was that defense after McDermott and Wilkes left?

Basically Ron's defense is no defense for only having 3 winning seasons while he was here.

Without Cam and, well, I'll throw Keek in there... without those two he doesn't last more than 3 years as a coach.

Good guy, decent mentor, not a coach you hire if your main goal is to win.

Yes. It’s like he’s coaching for personal job security. Just good enough not to be bad..not bad enough to immediately fire. Little bit of lip service “coach talk” on top of it.

I agree. Ego, his became very visible post firing. He could have taken a step back and improved himself but instead he wants to prove all his doubters wrong while not addressing his known issues. It's not a great setup for success.

Still, he has a chance to change the locker room but I'm not sure how his promises meshes with Snyder's known will and tactics. JR allowed Ron to make and keep promises, until Gettleman came along and rocked Ron's world in 2016. That was ugly and this could go up in a mushroom could too. Snyder has never been known as player loyal owner, at least not from anything I have heard.
