Short was a pro bowler coming off a down year when the entire team crapped the bed.  He would have got that same contract on the open market.  And our defense got noticeably worse once short got hurt.

Do you understand what happened? He wasn't a free agent. He was under contract. A contract inked by Gettleman. Hurney took that contract and converted base salary to bonus creating more guaranteed money in the deal and greatly reducing our cap flexibility to create additional cap space immediately. This is a big part of how he created such a cap mess in his first tenure.

If that’s the case than we overpaid for Luke as well.  The entire defense was bad this season.  Shaq did his part and played hard.  He was 100 times better than Eric Reid, who some people think should be making double what he is.

Marty is still here because he is going to be the person to implement his vision.  Who to draft, who to activate on game day and what the coaches do.  That way he can meddle and run the team without being the face of the failure.
