Brian Burns was top 5 in the NFL in sacks per snap, and led all rookies

For comparison

Brian Burns - 7.5 sacks in only 447 snaps

Nick Bosa -   9.0 sacks in 716 snaps

As heralded as Bosa was, Burns had nearly the same amount of sacks despite playing in half the snaps.  This might be a bit of an obscure stat, but it shows what a completely dominant pass rusher he was, even as a rookie battling through injuries, in getting to the quarterback.  Rookie defensive ends tend to struggle, as it's one of the most difficult positions to make an impact early on.   If he had been healthy this year, his numbers would have been even better.

There's concerns about his ability to play the run, but he's an extremely high character, motivated young man who will do everything he can to bulk up and adjust to the position.  In addition, this is becoming more and more of a passing league every year, and it's extraordinarily hard to find guys who can consistently create pressure at this level.  Brian Burns upside is tremendous, and the concerns about him remind me of the grumblings over DJ Moore not getting more snaps as a rookie.

I think we will see 20 sack seasons out of Burns in his prime (not that hard to project when he would have had 15+ as a rookie if he played starter minutes).

And for him to stay healthy.

Ya, too bad he broke his hand doing a dumb, tried to play and made it worse. I really honestly think he fractured his fingers trying to block that punt though and broke more getting angry.

His stats were half that, half Bruce Irvin.

@KB_fan @kungfoodude or someone smarter about statistics then I am. I would love to see his stats in the run game and drop back though.

When ever his name comes up it seems pretty one dimensional.

A lot of those situational individual statistics are behind paywalls, unfortunately.
