James Bradberry "I want to be paid a top 5 CB"

letem walk.  Carolina should keep Cam,  Release/Retire Dontari Poe, Greg Olsen, Graham Gano, Jarius Wright, Mike Davis and Eric Reid.  Should be around $59 million cap to work with after that.  Thats a nice amount to reload the team.

I say we keep Poe only because we won't find anyone better. Either way we need to get younger and better at key positions. Bradberry doesn't help much when Michael Thomas is beating like a drum for two games a year.

I'd say that means he is gone. We can't afford that kind of salary(especially after locking up Thompson) and I don't think we should pay him that kind of money.

All that said, let's not undersell what a huge, huge blow this would be defensively for us. He is perfectly suited to match up to the WR's that are currently in the NFC South and has historically played very well versus them. This would be a big hole to fill on our most solid unit defensively.

It certainly does.  And it could be why we went ahead with the Thompson deal, overpaying of course.

Imagine developing a stud CB, then revoking his franchise tag, then drafting a solid replacement and letting him walk too. All the while not having any other CBs of note for 4-5 years.

In my mind, Norman was a "one-hit wonder."  He struggled before he had a good run in Carolina and then struggled again in Washington.  I think Bradberry was good, but not top 5--maybe top 25%?

As I said, the top 5 CBs in the league are pro bowlers.  Bradberry lacks that distinction--so if you want to be paid "what you're worth" and you have decided that you are worth top 5 money,  why is it nobody else thinks that you are a top 5 CB?  Makes no damn sense.

Bradberry is solid and consistent. He'd be the #1 corner on about half the NFL's rosters.

As such, those guys get paid top 5 salaries in FA. Someone will overpay for him. I hope it isn't us.

I would agree on Norman but only pause because I wonder how he would have faired if he stayed here. JB has been our most consistent corner for years now and I struggle with not franchising him at minimum and either working out a deal or rolling the dice on a more reasonable contract next year. Especially when it seems like we’re gonna have to devote a lot of attention to the d-line.

I think it was a bad move, but that second contract is the cash cow for players--I would have taken it too....and you are right--we had nothing else.

Which puts him in the top 25% range.  No pro bowls, but he wants top five money because that is what he is worth. SMH.

I am a bit surprised that he, Boston, etc. are getting so vocal so early.  I would love Bradberry--he will be a Patriot or Seahawk before its over--for some reason, they always have cap room

    • Nailed it! Chiefs got #10 overall (and selected Mahomes) and sent the Bills #27, #91, and a 2018 first-rounder (ended up being #18) to pick the QB that has kept them out of the Super Bowl. 💀 Tbf to the Bills tho, they turned those picks into Tre'Davious White, Dion Dawkins, Tremaine Edmunds, and Siran Neal. Three out of four hits ain't bad at all, but that one for one for KC... ooh wee mayne.
    • Yep. Happens to a lot of talented kids. I just think a lot of people don't understand that just because this kid is super talented doesn't mean he's going to make it to the pros. Most of them won't. Some will get injured. Some will run into trouble off the court/field. Some won't put in the work. The catering greatly increases the odds of the latter two. Then most will simply just not be good enough to make it to the pros. Either way, it all adds up to a long shot and the kids need to have solid plan Bs. A few years back my HS had the #1 RB recruit on the nation. He originally committed to UGA but flipped to Bama and was getting decent playing time as a true freshman before obliterating his ankle. He was never the same again after that. Never made it to the pros. Not sure what happened to him but evidently he wasn't the brightest bulb and was basically just getting passed through school to stay academically eligible. I don't think he was a bad kid, never really heard anything like that. He just wasn't all that bright and all the eggs were in the football basket.
