Speaking from experience I've done several interviews where the first round is with your potential boss and the second round is with the president or VP or GM or what have you

The second interview without Marty could be the one where Tepper goes "So who would you like to bring with you to replace that guy you talked to yesterday?"

I'd say two things to the folks that are heavily anti McDaniels at this point.

One, general consensus even among some of our own Insiders is that he's the favorite, so you might end up having to accept it hope for the best.

But two, there is still the interview to come. And the possibility exists that even if he's the guy Tepper wants right now, McDaniels could come off like a complete ass when he interviews and as a result, cause Tepper to change his mind.

Anything is possible.

How does that work? Does everybody go to him, or does he travel to that many places in one day?

I'd imagine it's all by teleconference or some such.

What intrigues me is it sounds like this could happen regardless of whether they're still in the playoffs or not.

Yeah that's what I got from that tweet earlier was they could do it no matter if they was still in the playoffs next week. I thought u couldn't do it, but hey it's the NFL.

I didn't think about a teleconference. I would've thought that an interview of this magnitude would be done face to face. Maybe that's what the second interview is for?

Those rules are convoluted and I think they've been changed a couple of times. It's confusing enough that when you try to look it up, you get different answers.

I'm not even trying to figure it out at this point. I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

I'd agree, but two things to consider...

If McDaniels is still in the playoffs, it would be a pretty hellacious request to ask him to fly to three different places across the country while he's also still trying to plan and prep for an upcoming game.

On the flipside, if you ask teams to wait, there's a good chance they might get impatient and just hire somebody else. That's considered kind of unfair to candidates on playoff teams because they basically wind up being punished for winning. It's the reason the NFL made these opportunities in the first place.
